I've been hearing people talk about Texas having rolling blackouts soon. I have my doubts. What's the word?

Tight grid conditions expected due to high number of forced generation outages
        Grid operator requests energy conservation

AUSTIN, TX, June 14, 2021 – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is asking Texans to reduce electric use as much as possible today through Friday, June 18. A significant number of forced generation outages combined with potential record electric use for the month of June has resulted in tight grid conditions.

Generator owners have reported approximately 11,000 MW of generation is on forced outage for repairs; of that, approximately 8,000 MW is thermal and the rest is intermittent resources. According to the summer Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy, a typical range of thermal generation outages on hot summer days is around 3,600 MW. One MW typically powers around 200 homes on a summer day.

"We will be conducting a thorough analysis with generation owners to determine why so many units are out of service," said ERCOT Vice President of Grid Planning and Operations Woody Rickerson. "This is unusual for this early in the summer season."

According to generation owners, the number of outages should decrease throughout the week.

Wind output for today is expected to be 3,500 to 6,000 MW between 3 and 9 p.m. This is roughly 1,500 MW lower than what is typically available for peak conditions. Wind output is expected to increase as the week goes on.

Today’s peak load forecast may exceed 73,000 MW. The peak demand record for June is 69,123 MW set on June 27, 2018 between 4 and 5 p.m.

I find it funny they want energy conservation. I'm here thinking "Mofos, it's expensive as hell - everyone is already conserving what they can!"

I operate on the premise that the government will drop the ball, and let these fucks continue to suck. So I guess I gotta drop 4600 damn dollars on a Kohler this year. Was going to anyway cause there's always some outage ever since I moved away from TXU and into Oncor's area. TXU = not one outage in 8 years. Oncor - At least 2 every year, sometimes 3.

Eat a dick oncor. Everyone hates you for a reason

Crazy heat in the mountains right now. It's been in the 90s the past few days here at my place in Lake City, and I'm just under 9k'. Completely out of the norm. Nobody has central air up here. I've got two window units running full blast, and all the blinds closed. My house (and most up here) are built for solar gain, to help in the winter.

I heard it was worse in the Denver/CO Springs area. Are y'all not having a heat wave?

Well for most of April/May it was cloudy every day and rained a ton, which kept the temps down. But last week it got sunny and dry and now we are in the low 90's every day with humidity.

This is why I had a whole-house generator put in 4 years ago, the likelihood of summertime rolling blackouts due to the hordes of Kalifornia refugees moving into Tejas.

It’s been humid as balls where I live and unseasonably wet. Not yet reached the 90s until this week, but so much humidity you pour sweat as soon as you step outside. Yard work is so fun too. My garden is thriving though.
