it is true that if you make a deal your screwed he will default with no consequences . if the court orders restitution he will pay up to avoid jail. i have witnessed this first hand .
bottom line this pos needs to be charged and arrested .

bro, i am not trying to argue or pretend i am a righteous man at all. i said that more as normal forum funny, but at the same time if it could be facilitated then why not exact justice?

i am seeing the funny angle as it teaches kids all about karma if you want them to believe in that bullshit. see kids, cub master steve stole from you. now he is screaming in paint with a broken tib and fib from falling off that rock. the universe has come together as it should. do not do bad things kids. remember the golden rule little bros and do not be like steve.

IMO, they worked hard for that money and he stole it. They have the right to know that he's a piece of shit and they should be able to watch the downfall and take it in as an example of what can happen when you fucking suck.

And to make Brent happy, have them watch when you cut off his hands.
This right here. You, and the other parents of the pack, have an opportunity to set an example for those kids. An example, that I would bet, many will never see and a lesson never learned otherwise.

Be up front with them as to what has happened, nd the actions being taken.

Does he still have room on his sash for his embezzlement badge?

Would be awful hard to sew it on without any hands.

Pay it all back at once in cash immediately or go directly to police.

                Not cool.

Did not read all the comment man, but my perspective is....

Stealing money -> Call the police, let it play out

Stealing money from kids -> Call the police because that's beyond asswhooping worthy.

Yes, it's a learning opp for the kids - yes, you can probably do a go fund me - but the LAST thing this person deserves is being protected from consequences.

Over the years my kids do a lot of fund rasiers and often times I wonder if all the money is being spent (typically for baseball/softball teams) on the team. There is never any real accountability to all the kids (and sometimes my kids raise 500-1000 dollars)/parents.

In this case you know someone stole from the kids which is also stealing from the parents and everyone who contributed. Yes, people received goods in return but most people give funds to help the team, group - kids.

Additionally, what's to stop this person to just move on to another organization and continue to funnel donations to his pocket? Hell, or even just another scout group/troop?

My reply was tongue in cheek. I agree with ya'll that the kids should be taught a valuable lesson and the consequences they should face if they decide to steal from others.

Karma is as real as astrology, luck, and god.

We are doing our best to teach the kids this valuable lesson. It just sucks this happened.

The BSA will kick him out and prevent him from doing it again.

Not sure if the parents will get to decide to file charges or if the local BSA council will have a say.

This right here. File charges. Fuck him. You should have ZERO remorse, even if his kid is in the troop. It takes a special kind of piece of subhuman shit to steal from kids and he will fucking do it again if given the chance. Perhaps with a record and the growing orgs that do background checks, he won’t get that chance again. Press fucking charges. Then cut his fucking hands off.

A hard lesson, but an important lesson for the kids : What to do when you have been taken advantage of in order to not continue to get screwed over.

Personally i would involve the police to protect the kids from further disappointment. How much cash are we talking here?

Yall shoulda called the cops as soon as you found out. Not that the popo is going to do anything about it. At least get it on file and then try and recoup money.

Have him arrested. While he is locked up, break into his house and take everything of value to sell and recouped the losses plus labor. When he gets out, beat his ass.
