  • Forbes wonders: Is Ford for Sale?

Interesting read. IMO VW is the only company out there that could, and perhaps would, buy Ford.

it would have been easy to say “oh, yeah, another profit warning” while reading Ford’s press release this morning—it was indeed one of those—but the underlying message in this Ford management statement was very different than all the others.

Well they already have utterly retarded engine design (3.5L Duratec) - so why not just go German all the way.

I hated my Contour SVT, it was European design and broke ALL THE TIME

    I love my 66'

Ford has a horrible habit of eliminating all of their designs that are durable and instead replacing them with designs that are problematic. Kind of reminds me of every German carmaker in the past 20 years.

I have a wealthy client that's German who years back bought a ridiculously expensive car that's barely drivable. I chided him and asked him why he didn't buy a Ford GT. He asked me if I thought American Technology was superior to German technology. My reply was that the Luftwaffe still flew fifty-year-old F-4 Phantoms.

        Wasn't the F-4 America's first stealth fighter?

You couldn't see it through all the smoke!

And the Euros LOVE that car to this day, even though it was a fuckin' time bomb.

That was a consequences of using a pure turbo jet design engine instead of a high bypass turbofan. The b-58 Hustler and the f-104 Starfighter used the j79 engine prior to it being used in The Phantom II. There was a later variant of the j79 that was referred to as smokeless but it was anything but. I still love the j79. I'd one day like to own one but the prices have gotten out of reach.

You also could've told him that he's way out of date. American surpassed uropean reliability back in 2006, according to the JD Power reports. So yes, that's a superior design. If you can't understand that very poor reliability is inferior, then maybe you're just not very smart. I think those germans that still say that are clinging to the 1980's or someting. It was probably true 30 or 40 years ago. I know an ASE mechanic that calls any of those cars "German trash". Hates 'em.

On paper, Tesla could buy Ford, but no cash, it would all be stock.

A lot of companies could theoretically buy Ford with its current market cap, but not sure too many want all the liabilities that go along with it. As long as Ford honors the Ford 8yr/125k warranty I bought for my Raptor, I don’t care who owns them.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to buy the OEM extended warranty for my Raptor.
