  • Blended Family vs COVID-19

I know it's mostly men here (who am I kidding, ALL), but I want to throw this out there and see what you guys think.

If you have children with an ex during this whole 'shelter in place' deal with the China virus and your ex completely disregards all safety precautions and continues with life as if nothing is happening, would you send your children for their weekend with the ex?

That's our situation. My wife's ex believes this is all a total hoax and is doing absolutely nothing different. Last time he had the two girls for the weekend, they went house shopping, touring multiple homes for sale, among other random errands for the weekend.

I'm not going over the top with this, but we're sure as hell not being careless. I work from home and my wife is a stay at home mom so we literally have no real reason to leave the house right now since we can pretty much order everything online. Our children have not left our property in weeks, other than the older three that each spend time with exes.

What do you do in this situation? Tell the ex that the kids won't be coming for the weekend if the ex won't take precautions? Or just send them on and pray he doesn't get them sick?

No way I would let them go over there. I would let your wife do all the talking though since it's her ex. You could also call the court and ask what you can do without getting into a world of shit. But IMO, there's no fucking way I'd let the kids go with that dude.

Yea, call the court or your attorney. I have zero experience here but maybe a judge will take away visitation rights for a while..

I’d be worried about the kids bringing something into the house. They aren’t likely to get sick but you and your wife a helluva lot more likely to catch it..

Best wishes upon you and your family..

Nope, no way, ain’t gonna happen. No matter what anyone says, no matter their title or relation, it is your job as a man to protect everyone under your roof.

Seek advice from an attorney, this is the wrong place to get the right info and do it stat. If you go against legal order without an attorney to protect your interests, you run a high chance of losing your ass, despite the best of intentions and best interest.

          That's my $.02

I wouldn't suggest following this advice.

Thanks for all the replies, fellas. I need to read their decree and see what it says. Doing that now. He was very inactive during the divorce and has very little spelled out in the decree IIRC.

Do exactly this, and don't go against the decree without consulting an attorney. Also realize that the ex very well may be, for the most part, just posturing to get his ex's goat. I don't think he intends to make a weekend family trip to the mall to do some handrail licking, though I do know that people like that do exist.

Of course they do. Crawfish over there is a perfect example.

There’s no posturing going on. He told the girls this is no worse than a regular flu, it’s just the government trying to take our rights, take our guns, etc. He’s made several comments to my wife about how lame the whole thing is.

There isn’t one single word in all of the divorce docs about custody arrangement. Just that she’s primary custodian. It’s an extremely minimalist doc.
