  • Best place to scrap an Aluminum Engine from a 2014 Toyota?

Just like title says, pulled the engine (hydrolocked) from a rebuild I did. It's Aluminum and has steel internals.

Called several places and range from .04/lb to .08/lb

Is this what I should be expecting? i stripped all plastic/rubber off it, so it's straight block right now.

they are quoting you a "dirty" price....Strip everything out that isn't aluminum and take them just the bare aluminum block...They should give you a much better price

Edit: For instance, I scrap about 250lbs of bronze valves once a year. If I leave the stainless stem inside the valves they will only give me .50/lb... If I take the stems out that price goes up to almost 2.00/lb

        Yep, got $24

Thanks for the advice. I needed to get the old block out of the garage so I'm glad it's gone and at least got something for it, but wow.

I went to DFW recyclers off Division St in Arlington. They gave fair-ish prices. I also recycled the engine harness, bolts and bearings from the crankshaft and rotors.

Scraping metal? Are you on meth? When I have to scrap something I set it on the sidewalk in front of my shop and let the meth heads haul it off.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Is that where that shit goes? I've noticed that anything I want to get rid of, doesn't matter what it is, I can just set it out there. It'll be gone the next day.

Since I put up my cameras a few years ago The curbside magic has got a but less magical, and far more "faces of death". These scrap people drive the neighborhood looking for curb side treasure with truck and trailer, some of it's pretty damn funny on camera. they are't always the most athletic of people. That reminds me... I have a blown up riding lawn mower and a dead BBQ grill that needs to disappear.

I live in the country, you don't out it "curbside" for fear they'll come back and take everything else. Meth heads will take anything.

Yeah, I wanted it out of my garage as I am done with the rebuild. And $24 got me a nice hooker handjob behind work...win-win

I threw out old rotting fence panels that had been repainted a few times. Someone showed up in a minivan and asked if they could have them IDGAF I had them out for city haul off. They spend a good 3 hours loading them inside a minivan then it wouldn't start since they had left the lights on the whole time. Awkward....

Also had someone smash glass sliding door that was out for junk just to scrap the frame, dicks...

People will for sure haul off most everything.
