I guess they are counting the guy shooting at cops as one of the "5".

5 people killed, at least 20 wounded in west Texas shooting; gunman dead

Authorities have shot and killed the alleged gunman in Saturday’s shootings around Midland and Odessa, Texas. The shootings left five people dead and over 20 others injured.

Police say the suspect was shot and killed near the Cinergy movie theater in Odessa.

“It has been confirmed that the active shooter was shot and killed at the Cinergy in Odessa. There is no active shooter at this time. All agencies are investigating reports of possible suspects,” the Midland Police Department said on Facebook.
The Odessa Police Department said during a Saturday evening press conference that five people were killed and 21 others shot in the shooting. The victims have not been identified at this time.

Three law enforcement officers were among the injured: one from the Department of Public Safety, one officer from the Midland Police Department and one officer from Odessa Police Department, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said.

Around 4:30 p.m. CST, Midland Police Department said on Facebook that officers responded to “reports of an active shooter at the Home Depot in Odessa.” Home Depot has since reached out to FOX 8 confirming that there was not an active shooter in their Odessa store.

Police also initially believed there were two shooters involved in the incident. The shooters were allegedly traveling in two separate areas. One was traveling in a gold colored vehicle and the other allegedly hijacked a United States Postal Service mail truck.

However, it has since been released that is was one suspect. He was reportedly driving one vehicle and at one point ditched that vehicle, taking over the postal van, Gerke said.

Officers made contact with the suspect at the Cinergy movie theater between Midland and Odessa. The suspect and officers exchanged gunfire and the suspect was shot and killed, he said.

Gerke said the subject was identified as a white male in his 30’s. His name and motive were not given.

The University of Texas Permian Basin was placed on lockdown during the active shooter threat. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Meanwhile the New York Police Department Counterterrorism Bureau said on Twitter, “We are closely monitoring the ongoing active shooter incident in Midland/Odessa, Texas”

I am pretty sure a few of the injuries were from officers gunfire.

I'm in the, let the cops do their job, camp of things. There may be something else at play.

Beyond that, I don't even want to know this fucktards name or anything else unless it applies to motive. Don't give him an ounce of publicity.

He failed a background check. I'm shocked he was able to obtain a firearm.

The suspected gunman in the deadly shooting rampage in Odessa and Midland Texas has been identified; seven people were killed and at least 21 others injured.

The Odessa Police Department has confirmed that the gunman in Saturday’s shooting was Seth Aaron Ator of Odessa. FBI agents executed a search warrant at Ator’s home on September 1, KMID-TV reported.

Property records in Ector County show that Ator purchased a lot on Cavalli Circle in Odessa in January of 2018. The land has a market value of $9,260.

The address listed on Ector County’s website does not come up on Google maps. Heavy reached out to a nearby business called JH Safety & Trucking to ask about Cavalli Circle and whether the area was commercial or residential.

The man who answered the phone, who did not wish to be identified by name, described the street as a relatively new development in west Texas. He explained that the area had originally comprised of mobile homes but that businesses have been moving in recently. The man confirmed that Seth Ator lived there, referring to Ator as his neighbor. He said the shooting had left him stunned because Ator had been a quiet person who “didn’t bother anybody.” He indicated that Ator lived in a mobile home, but images shared from the property depict what looks to be some sort of shack or shed

From the sound of things it sounds like this shooting could have been prevented if the Troopers hadn't decided to pull somebody over for a chickenshit reason when the man was having basically the worst day of his life. Had they not pulled him over for not using his turn signal he probably would have just gone home, had a couple of beers, watched some TV, and went to sleep.

Seems absolutely ridiculous to assign causation to the officers when the shooter was the one at fault.
