I bought my wife a 2011 BMW 328i about 9 months ago. I opted for the aftermarket warranty. The check engine light came on and I know what the issue is(eccentric shaft position solenoid). I'm wondering if I can repair it myself and invoice the warranty company through my heavy equipment repair company? I would imagine theres going to be some sort of conflict of interest or something but I'd rather be the one to work on it. Anyone got any ideas?

Don't go easy on them with the parts or labor either. The average labor rate in the area is over $85 an hour, I'd see what the German specialists are and charge slightly less than them and hit them at full list price for all of the parts. If you don't have a dealer that'll sell to you at jobber then mark the parts up, you are entitled to make money on the parts as well. If you have to order the parts get her into a rental if the warranty covers it.

read the warranty papers first. A long time ago, I use to work at for a 3rd party warranty administrator and we would deny claims if they did not call ahead of time for authorization. Usually in cases like this where the owner had the work done elsewhere without calling first. Worst case the might require you to take it to one of their designated shops. All of this should be spelled out in the warranty paper you got when you signed.

They are going to beat you down on the price of the repair and parts and depending on who it is they might require you to take it to one of their shops. I find more often than not that theyre absolutely worthless unless you have a major mechanical failure since alot of them wont cover electronics which is what 90 percent of car issues are nowadays. If you need a motor or transmission then it was a good investment lol
