I have cleared my house, numerous times, in nothing but my underwear and my XDS. If you are trying to catch/stop someone, time is of the essence. Don't go to the safe for a back up weapon, grab your loaded pistol, and start clearing the house.

This is how it's supposed to work. I have done the same. I've also come home (with the whole family in the car) to find the garage door up before. Typically, our door from the garage to the house isn't locked during the day. I used my car weapon to clear to the bedroom to switch pistols and then cleared the rest of the house, closets and all. Have a plan and execute it.
