It really depends on when you're sentenced and what laws are in effect at the time. The state legislatures like messing with things periodically and change the sentencing guidelines on a regular basis. In the past I know that 3g offenses required 85% of the time to be served before being eligible for release. That may not be the case any longer.

I can't remember all the criteria, but, I think the persons history and the final verdict play into it as well. Just because she's eligible doesn't mean that she'll get it though. I would expect her to get a few years longer.

The interesting question is going to be can/should she appeal? If she is successful in her appeal she would get a new trial where she would potentially get a longer sentence or receive a not guilty verdict. Seems like a pretty big gamble but the advantage would be if she win's on appeal it is likely because the lead investigator wasn't able to testify to it not being a crime in his opinion or because the change of venue was not granted. Either of those could easily of helped defense secure a not guilty verdict. I guess it will come down to the jury polling now that the defense attorneys can talk directly to the jurors.

In my opinion she would be a fool to appeal the decision. In all likelihood she will make her first parole because she's extremely unlikely to commit a crime in the future. If she's smart she will embrace the opportunity that the guy's brother handed her and become heavily involved in Evangelical proselytizing. She would be a superstar and quite successful at spreading the word of God while profiting at the same time.

The man's younger brothers words shocked me and I must say that he is a better man than me. I could not forgive or forget if I were in his shoes.

Yeah I don't dispute that especially with the media coverage, however, I know the general orders does not allow it. Like I said though they may just get an ass chewing.

They are deputies of the sheriff's department assigned to the bailiff section. Almost all of them have worked the streets. Generally, the older looking guys are retired from other departments with tons of experience. Those old heads usually are "part time" only working when court is in session which forost courts is between 3-6 hours a day.

When my Dad retired, he went to work as a bailiff at the federal courthouse in Sherman. It was super easy job that he spent most of his time reading books and getting paid nearly 30 bucks an hour.

Yup. You gotta remember a lot of those guys didn't have the cushy pensions that most departments offer now. Some departments do no pay into SS as well so they find a department that does for additional funds. Virtually no department offers a good health benefits after retiring. So to supplement income they do the bailiff gig. Or a lot of them went he and got bored and wanted to see their old friends and/or do the job on their own terms. Dallas Co if you work x amount of hours per year you can build up a second pension.

They said that for the jury, it came down to Guyger's intent and her admission in her testimony.

Looks like her poor choice of words may have hurt her the most. They may have still come up with the same verdict but maybe not...
