I've been lucky enough to find a vet that makes his money off of his large animal hospital. We've been going to him for years, as have most of his clients, so he keeps his prices low, and relies on repeat business and client referrals. I've probably sent 20 new patients to him in the last few years, but even with the addition of his new surgical center and hiring 2 more vets on, he still has his services priced to where the average family can afford to have pets.

The bulldog is going in for eye surgery when she gets off antibiotics. He's charging $75 for the surgical cost of both eyes, anesthesia, and having someone sit with her until she fully wakes up.

Where are you taking this dog? Our vet in Midlothian does it for about $100. What kind of dog?

It's my dog's normal vet, right up the street. The one who's done all the shots, etc. Boxer mix.

Earlier in life I spent 6 years as a Veterinary Technician....trust me, that business is like any other....you get what you pay for. You wouldn't believe some of the barbaric shit I saw from those "low cost" clinics. No thanks.

Be sure and use a metal coat hanger, the plastic kind can get messy.
I posed the question to someone today wondering if the number of abortions has fallen with the abundance of plastic hangers.
