ALLEN, Texas - A man in Allen is facing federal charges after being caught with a massive amount of child pornography.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office said 39-year-old Richard Belden’s home on McDermott Drive in Allen was searched Tuesday.

Detectives seized several electronic devices with 58 terabytes of data related to child pornography. A single terabyte is equivalent to 1024 gigabytes or more than 500 hours of video.

Belden was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography.

“The Collin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the National Computer Forensic Institute and the United States Secret Service for the training and equipment they continually provide which makes these types of investigations possible,” the sheriff’s office said.

He is being held in the Collin County jail.

It sounds like the same strategy as the drug war, where they pursue and punish the 'users' in the belief that if they eliminate the demand, the 'supply' side will magically disappear. Kinda dumb, but it's also difficult to have sympathy for creeps like that.

And if the volume of data is even remotely close to correct, that's gotta be someone that's distributing or something. That is a ridiculous amount of media and a huge cost for all that storage, I would think. Probably some sort of king pin in kiddie porn and they're just charging with possession until they go through everything and build a stronger case.

Yes they do. They sensationalize everything in every possible way hoping to get more for their budget next year. Literally, this guy could have all granny porn with one picture of some 15 year old. To top it off, they have already seized everything they possibly can from this guy to sell. And it doesn’t matter if he is ever convicted, they will steal everything they possibly can from him.
