  • How do you lose a car these days?

I am seriously confused. I bought a car last week, had it shippied. Was supposed to be delivered Sunday, then Monday then Tuesday. After losing contact with the truck driver Tuesday morning it seems he dissapeared. Car dealer can not locate it and has no response from the driver as well. The driver and truck is theirs and since they guy has worked there 7 years without issue they never GPSd the truck. Because the Audi is in a trailer they cant GPS track it as well. I watch too many movies so I suggested to have the car pinged since its still theirs and has on board cellular and wi-fi but I guess they cant do that in real life.
I told them just wire me back the money but my bank is stupid and the wire cant just be returned to my account, it has to go through the parent bank, then my bank and then told to be routed to my account. This is annoying the shit out of me.

Yeah I posted that Vinwiki video on the Audi forum. Ive had small issues with transports before but nothing where the car was lost. Had a driver decide to take a few days off once but at least they told me. With this its just gone.

Dealership has very good reviews, been around a long time and I know two people that bought cars there and had them shipped. Guess I am just lucky.

Bet the dealership puts GPS units on their delivery trucks now.

FYI for future use.... We use several different GPS programs / units to track freight / trucks.

You can request the driver use http://www.macropoint.com/ - all he has to do is put in his number and turn on his GPS on his phone. It will automatically update his position. Our rate is $5 per shipment. Not sure what it would run an individual

Or you can use http://www.locustraxx.com/ - these are self powered GPS units about the size of a post card with a pager stuck on it, for that you would put on your cargo / truck carrying your cargo. It gives you real time updates of where your shit is. Our rate is $75 per shipment, not sure what an individuals rate would be.

Time to report it stolen....which will kill the future value when you try to resell it. That is if it ever shows up at your door.

According to cliff notes...bought car, hired transport company to haul car, car is in a trailer so GPS can not find it, car has not arrived. Car is now stolen because it has not arrived and can not be located. Report it stolen and Carfax will have that in the report which will kill the value when it is being sold later on down the road.

Yup. The car was never put into my name though since it was being sent with title and transfer forms because I have to pay local tax on it instead of the state it was bought in. So I dont know if I can even report it stolen.

Car dealer said they will wire back my money plus $2000 because of the screw up. Problem is that was 3 days ago and I still dont have the funds and now the number to the dealer goes straight to voicemail. I am waiting on my lawyer to call me back to see if there is anything I can do or am I completely screwed.

Sounds to me like they got cold feet on the fabulous deal they offered you. If you get your money back, and it's not in your name, not a whole lot you can do. If you haven't gotten your money back then it's more of a fraud case I would think.
