My experience tells me if you want something thats reliable and gets great MPG, go Toyota Camry or Corolla. Camry's come in V6's if you want something that isn't a slug.

I'd even venture to an IS250 as they have few issues (other than dash cracking and odd noises that develop with age)

A high mileage C300 4matic? Buy the biggest warranty they'll offer and make sure it has rental coverage. They aren't too bad but you pretty much have to go to a dealer or at least an MB specialist for almost any of the work.

I have a '13 C250 for my commuter car and its been great. Bought it with 11,000 miles and now has 50k miles on it. Mine is the AMG sport so it has staggered size tires and you cannot rotate them. Other than that, I love the fact the oil filter is on the top of the engine. This is the only vehicle I will change the oil myself because you suck the oil out of the dipstick tube with a "topsider" oil can and change the filter from the top. I work, with a couple guys that have older models 05-07ish and they have 100-200k miles on them with no big issues.

I did have one small issue that apparently happens to most newer cars. The heater core started to get moldy and you get a musty smell. They way to keep this from happening is to turn off the a/c for the last few minutes of your drive. I still dont do this. The fix for the mold is to remove the battery cover (which also covers the a/c blower motor) and spray lysol into it. In the end, the car smells good and the musty smell goes away.

I'd like to be 12,000 or less

AWD would be great but, not a deal breaker ..FWD at least

shitty roads from November to March here most years

I have a AWD Magnum now, its got almost 200,000 on it so, I EXPECT it to die soon
