Curvy calls to mind another potential term that might be used..."ample".

47 year old now. But had my first gout attack at 26. Went to the ER and had a doctor tell me that I'm a big ole boy and if I step on my foot wrong it would cause the pain I was haveing. Three years later and several attacks later I went back to ER and had a doctor that took the time to find the cause (gout) and get treatment. Some truth in the article..

Personal responsibility...what is that??? Let's face it in America we have an overabundance of food and too many people do not have the discipline to eat in moderation. But don't tell them they are fat or it may hurt their feelings. I would hate to be a doctor in this PC culture we are in.

I do think overweight is not the correct term, over-fat is more accurate.

I was significantly overweight, i.e. fat, for at least 25 years. Pre-diabetic for three of those years, and on hefty (there's another one!) doses of cholesterol and triglyceride meds. Finally did something about it, and my knees thanked me. Still some residual knee issues, but the source was at least stopped.

A doctor didn't need to call me some PC term for being overweight, I called myself fat.

That's what you get for going to the EMERGENCY room for toe pain. I hope you didn't call an ambulance for said toe pain.

Fat and high blood pressure. Doctor was going to do pills, don't need pills. Need diet and more physical activity. Diet - easier than activity - but am getting up earlier and putting off work stuff the best I can for a little cardio in mornings.

Doctor also tactfully explained those were needed. If getting dead is not motivation enough, guess I'm just doomed. If I cut weight and am maintaining activity, still high blood pressure than I'll consider pills.

Either way, OF COURSE THERE IS SHAME. I'm not one of those cases where it's some medical condition. Simply work a lot, kids, long commutes...etc. Eat poorly (can fix that) Have to figure it out...

...shame/embarrassment is a great motivator. I want the bold truth.

However, I know more that want it sugar coated/not directly addressed. Whether their personal health, behavior of their kids...etc...etc
