  • Electrician referral needed

New house closing on Friday and I need some electrical and low-voltage\data work done.

New J-Boxes for ceiling fans, new outlets for mounted TVs, some Cat5\6 pulled, maybe a wireless AP....

Prefer insured\bonded who knows what the hell they are doing but won't break the bank as I could probably do the low voltage stuff.... but really... screw that crap in the summer. lol

I'd pull the cat5/cat6 yourself and install your own AP's. Pulling cable is super easy - you can get the plates/tools/and cable from Home Depot (or order from Amazon).

I'd cut all the holes you want and get a fish pole set: https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Fibe.../dp/B005LW4CFG

You can literally go from the hole you cut straight into the attic. If your attic is finished just have someone bang it around and cut a hole to get it up.

All the hard stuff - putting on terminals / starting your runs - is done in the AC. Just gotta walk the wire over to your holes. If it were me I'd run a couple a day after dark and be in the attic less than 10 minutes at a time before I had a shower.

That's how I've been building my 64 bug... 10 minutes at a time if it has to be done outside lol

Edit: take the money you saved at $100/drop for cat6 and pay the electrician. Shit... put the holes in with the labeled 14/2 or 12/2 wire dangling at the breaker for the electrician to do the final hook up. The electrical wiring is where your going to spend a lot of money. I'd rather pay an electrician to do only the final connections on both ends so you have peace of mind it was done correctly. Running the wire can be done by any idiot.

Edit Edit: Google "Electric rough-in diy" for tips if you decide to allocate the cash saved somewhere else in the new house.
