  • What to bring to jury duty....beer?

Tyler man brings beer to jury duty, leaves in handcuffs.

    TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
A 23-year-old Tyler man was arrested at the Smith County Courthouse this morning, after showing up with a beer in his hand.

Taylor Huckaby, of Tyler, reportedly showed up to the courthouse this morning and was slurring his speech and was unstable on his feet.

Huckaby was reportedly carrying a large cup. Deputies determined it was filled with beer.

Huckaby was charged with public intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor, and was taken to the Smith County Jail on a $260 bond.

Huckaby was charged in January with public intoxication and again in June for a DWI.

Amateur hour. 50/50 vodka redbull in a redbull can. call it done.

On a side note, I've always really wanted to do jury duty, been called up three times, been out of country every single time. Bullshit.

I have jury duty coming up on the 18th...
Last time went all day, through voir dire, breaking for lunch, waiting outside courtroom for another 1.5 hours after lunch, and finally being dismissed about 3pm as the defendant took a deal...

My opinion, all deals should be off the table once a jury pool is formed.

That's often when the defendant blinks, at the last moment.

I was head juror on a DUI case in Parker years back, kid was 19, and his second offense. I kinda felt bad that we found him guilty, and kinda didn't.

I was on a jury in Denton County years ago for a delivery of a controlled substance charge. The defendant brought a kilo of coke to some undercover guy and she had it hidden with her groceries inside of a box of frosted flakes. I lost it when the officer on the stand said he found it there and laughed so long and hard that my stomach hurt. I got some pretty strange looks that day.

Edit: I was on a jury in Dallas county for a possession of a controlled substance case. It was a slam dunk guilty case and the guy was an idiot. The jury charge was a bit confusing so I asked the judge for a copy of the law that the man was accused of breaking and was told that we could not see it and that we could only go by what was in the jury charge and the testimony that we had heard and the evidence that was presented. I refused to convict a man when presented with only the number for the law that man was accused of breaking and not being allowed to see the actual law. About half of the other people on the jury though the same thing and the rest could have given a shit either way. We found the guy not guilty.

No alchol was involved in any of the aforementioned stories.

FYI: I have picked my own jurors many, many, many times.
