Got most of mine over on tinypic just deleted all the ones I had in PB.

I know a few forums that cache all images uploaded to threads for this very reason, but it isn't common practice.

      (photobucket's issue isn't a technical one )
I too have used photobucket for my 3rd party hosting but at least I have all the original photos... just need to move them to some other place and link them that way back to my threads.

I'm a network Engineer and I too have been accused of being anti-cloud but the reality is I'm all for putting things in the cloud that make sense to be there. Other things shouldn't rely on a 3rd party. Seriously, how many times will companies have to learn that outsourcing (essentially outsourcing your data center) in the long run isn't something they will be happy with?

My last job (HUGE bank) said "we want 0 data centers in the next 3 years, put EVERYTHING in the cloud"... It will never work, we tried to explain that a diverse strategy was the way to go but no one will listen because someone way high up said it will work fine so it's "The Emperor's New Clothes". No one seems to have an answer with where to put the main frames they cannot live without.

I'm also not a fan of the idea that dev-ops is the way to go. Essentially you're telling me that a guy who's a software programmer can learn in a few weeks things that take even a normal guy, let alone an "expert" level guy, years to master?

Lucky I was able to retrieve all my pics just now. Gotta em on my iPad for now till I get a flash drive. But I did have the satisfaction of telling them off in to memo box when asked why I'm deleting my account.

Now just need to find a new image hosting site. But this thought me a hard lesson of why it's important to backup my shit from now on.

So, what alternative hosting site are people using? Found out I'll end up surpassing my bandwidth limitations and REALLY don't want to pay more for private hosting.

The fact that the CEO said that the customer backlash was not expected tells me that he has his head firmly inserted into his ass.

Photobucket CEO John Corpus discusses his company’s decision to begin charging its customers $399 for hosting photos, a service that was free. The abrupt notice and lack of explanation angere…

The real issue here is that they didn't communicate well. They also should have created a tiered system. The fact is that their current model was unsustainable. The reason Photobucket sucks is because they have no money to invest into better supporting infrastructure. They need a paid model or they won't survive. However going from $0 to $399 a year overnight is just shooting yourself in the foot. They way they executed it may have been a bullet to the head..

What is sad, is that if he would have shot for 29.99 or something and maybe upped it a little every year he could have raked in some money.

looks like imageshack is also trying to pull some kind of flimflam now. I haven't used them in a good while, so maybe its been that way for some time. Couldn't find the upload button, and I tried today and it seems they also want some money from me. Fuck that

$33 a month seems a fucking stupid when you can get things like Amazon prime for $8 a month.

They might could get away with $3.99 a month.

This. $3.99/mo, I can still hotlink, I don't have to download all of my shit, upload to another server, and fix my build threads. DONE.

This shit is the reason I don't use cloud or any other internet storage...I don't even keep anything on my computers in case of hardware failure or getting hijacked by hackers. Anything I need to hold on to is on a portable hard drive which is also backed up to another portable hard drive on a regular basis or anytime I need to add anything to it. FUCK photobucket and its greedy CEO. They will go away just like all the other greedy companies that have come and gone before them.

I never liked the damn cloud. Sounds like something for pansies who are too ignorant to just go buy a hard drive or two and plug them into a usb hub.

Really doesn't make sense. They should just infringe privacy rights and claim all photos uploaded as their property to be sold
