First let me say I didn't pay for em. I know everyone thinks they're some kind of a waste of money. But my father in-law bought all manner of time with this company called "Blue-Green" timeshares. To date I believe he's paid something like $60k for timeshare time. But, its for life. You do have to pay yearly "upkeep" fees, but for him that's not a big deal. So anyway, he almost always has a lot of time he can't use, due to his work schedule and just every day life. I guess he bought more of it than he needed, or maybe he thought he'd need more points if he wanted to take a bunch of people with him. Not sure.
That's how they work, for those of you who aren't familiar. Its on a point system. So say a week in a 1 bedroom cabin by a lake somewhere, is 10k points. But if you got the 5 bedroom presidential suite, its something like 55k points. I believe he has something like 135k points available to him every year. Not real sure about that either, but he just tells us when he's done with his points, and we decide if there is anywhere we feel like going.
Anyway, he's allowed to send other people to use them, if he wants. Apparently they don't care who uses them once its been paid for. The presidential suites are pretty nice. So this time, the ol lady wants to go see Wisconsin. Blue Green of course puts their time share in touristy areas. They're all over the country. So this one is in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. I've never been much of a traveler, because to be honest, I just never really had the interest. But now I will, since lodging will be free, and they'll have kitchens where you can just cook and save the money for going to the local attractions.
So I wanted to ask you vacationers, what the best method of travel is. Trains? Planes? Dealing with the TSA isn't really something I'd be interested in. I haven't flown since before the TSA existed. But I guess I'll do it if its the best way to go. What about a train? I've heard of luxury trains. Anyone ever used any of that? Any recommendations? How would you play it?
