Looking for info on 2007+ Escalade

I believe 2007-2014 were 3rd generation SUV's, and that is what I am looking at used. The wife wants something bigger than the CTS-V and proclaimed that she liked the Tahoe, so I said what about an Esca... and before I could finish the word she said or that.

My main concerns are ride quality, safety and last but not least reliability/mileages, aka when does shit start falling apart. Also, would it be stout enough to tow the 300 ( weighs roughly 4400 pounds )? I dont have a trailer, just wondering if its towing capacity which is rated at 8000+ pounds is as reasonable as it claims.

She wants to lower it, so you may want to factor that in. I've towed cars before but nothing crazy. I towed my Trans Am to Houston when I moved there and more recently my 300 to the shop when I blew a halfshaft.

I dont mean to be long winded, but any information to help me on my search for pros/cons would be helpful.

Don't waste your money. It literally is a Tahoe with a 6.2 and Caddy badges. We had one, a 2013 and it came with all of the nuances a Tahoe has. If you want the 6.2 and a nicer trim go with the Denali.

Cons
Interior finish can wear heavily on a used one. Ac buttons, Steering wheel buttons, door trim. A greasy cheese burger eater for a previous owner can really make the interiors worn

The DOD, deactivation on demand can cause some top end noise and bad problems. Listen on cold starts for ticking and top end noise. On the trucks with severe problems you will hear the loud valve train, on minor problems you will hear valve noise for ten seconds or so after a cold start.

Regular items replaced are minor like oil pressure switches, and look for oil leaks around the oil pan and oil filter housing.

I have an 07 LTZ kinda the same has every option you can get besides nav. It's got the 5.3 and 165K miles on it now. Only problems are simple stuff ac switch gas tank purge solenoid tpms sensors and the mirror quit folding on 1 side which I fixed with a replacement spur gear. Also the dash will crack by the airbag.If you keep the oil full you won't have any knock issues the ls series engines are very reliable. I say go for it except the lowering especially if you are gonna tow. It will probably ride like shit lowers anyways. If I ever purchase another truck it will be one of these. To each their own

A guy I work with had a slightly newer one, maybe 2011-ish? Looked good on the outside. On the inside, I was shocked by the poor fit and finish for the interior trim pieces. If anything, that's where I would expect a Cadillac to be better than it's GM cousin, but they missed the mark.

The same GM assembly lines build the Escalades. They're just rebadged Tahoes.
My CTSV was definitely a higher quality build. I miss that car.

I was in your shoes and chose the tahoe. I avoided the caddy and the Denali because of the air ride suspension and the awd system. Both are more trouble and far more expensive then the standard Yukon and tahoe.

The price of the caddy is about equivalent to the Denali so it's not a big price jump if you are looking at 07-10s. Truthfully I saw them for nearly the same price as loaded out hoes and yukons.

All of them suffer from the DOD issues... displacement on demand. You can tune it out but the true solution is top end work on the motor. Agree to listen to cold starts. I have no issues buying a DOD motor with good history.

The wife has an 08 Denali 6.2/6 speed auto, no DOD/AFM, just VVT. So far after 106,000 miles it hasn't given us a lick of trouble. I'm actually getting ready to cam and stall it next weekend, if it will last as long as the 06 1/2 ton we had before, it should last about forever as little as she drives it up here.

6.2 and awd is fun but has worn out a few parts: Brakes and a couple leaky front diff seals.

Like has been mentioned the interior fit and finish is poor. My 07 previous gen chevy is way better. I keep the yukon as clean as humanly possible with two kids ridding around it but Im still constantly chasing rattles and random scratches/marks. Don't even get me started on electronics... The stupid thing has had an easy $5-6k in electrical work to keep all the stupid gizmos working.

I love the drivetrain and it's functionality (for us) but the rest sucks.

Since momma doesn't really drive anymore I'm trying to find a little older but low mile 2500 suburban to replace it.

Low Mileage is relative. My duramax has 193k on it and feels more solid than her Yukon... I just love the 99-06 body style and interiors.

And the 3/4T burb is probably just a pipe dream anyway. She'll talk me into something else I'm sure.

I've always loved the 2500 NBS Suburban every since my brother owned one around 2000. I was actually looking for one when I bought the Z71 a few years back but just couldn't find one in good shape within budget.
