  • "surround sound"

so the receiver/dvd player/iPhone hookup/box portion of the surround sound system i have was dropped and no longer functions. it was maybe $500 a few years ago. so i have all of the speakers (center channel, 2 front, 2 wireless rear, and a sub.) can i just buy a new receiver/dvd player/iPhone hookup/box and attach the speakers and be good to go, or should i just buy another system? please know i am the furthest thing from an audiophile, so i am not looking to spend a shit ton for theater quality. gracias!

    god bless.

I assume your home theater speakers are the standard 6 or 8 ohms. Almost ever new receiver will support a range of speaker impedance. I wouldn't even worry about it. Just pick out a new receiver and you'll be fine. All my gear is Onkyo/Integra, but Yamaha, Denon and the new Sony's are all pretty good. And they will likely have Wi-Fi capability and support all the new formats, like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

Just keep in mind that when you see the wattage numbers on store bought gear is just for 2 channels driven. Only equipment like Emotiva or Outlaw Audio is rated at all channels driven. Not a big deal, just a reminder.

I had denon in the past, but like my current Yamaha better. Consider Harmon Kardon as well.

I have been partial to Denon but the Android App sucks. My brother just got a Yamaha and the app is much better.

If you're looking for a place to buy i've had good luck with this place the past 10 years. All factory refurb with a one year warranty.

Marantz, Yamaha, KEF, Focal, Polk, Def Tech, Denon, Home Theater, Speakers, Receivers, HDMI
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

I haven't looked at home theater in ages. Is it still 56 trillion dollars for the good stuff?

Damn, I've thinking about upgrading my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon AVS series 7.2, I really like that Yamaha 7.2 TSR5810 system for $399.00 that includes the SS speakers and Sub too...

I've got a Yamaha RX-V867, and it's been super solid for over 5 years now. I love it.

I've bought 3 receivers a few speakers and a sub with them and had no problems. I just bought a new house that came with a fully furnished media room. The projector is Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 9350, PSB TX2 towers, PSB Imagine XC center and PSB Imagine S surround. But the Pioneer Elite sc-61 and Infinity 12 sub need to be upgraded. Especially the sub, my Martin Logan 10' hits harder.

Not bragging, it was a divorce sell, she got the house and didn't know what was in there, didn't even have to negotiate it into to the contract. She just want to collect equity and move on.
