**The Texas Senate on Thursday voted to give those pesky annual state vehicle inspections the boot.

By a vote of 27-4, after lengthy debate, lawmakers approved Senate Bill 1588 that would drop the current mandate that all personal vehicles undergo annual state safety inspections.

The change, which would take effect in March 2018, changes a statewide policy imposed in 1951

Now I can finally get tags on my Cobra again. Well, in March of next year at least.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

It's good, but we still have emissions testing, just no safety inspection. At least it will be a touch cheaper.

              Yep^^^

Commercial vehicles would still face safety inspections, and emissions inspections would still be required in the state's most populous counties.

Now if we can get rid of the front plate for good....that would be great....

Serious question, my current tag is good until 2/18. Can I wait until March to get my registration done and not have to worry about a state inspection?

Ok so essentially for most of us, right now, this means nothing. Unless you live in a rural county that only required safety nothing changes.

I just want to be able to renew my registration without feeling like an animal every year. I should be able to do it at the same place I get an inspection

You can do it online in like 15 seconds. Inspection time is much worse.

It only passed on the Senate side. The news didn't say when the house looks at it.

Emissions suck, but it leaves a lot less bullshit for the well informed inspector to mess up.

This. It still has to pass the house.

Assume this only helps the cars that are 25+ yrs old that were just safety only?
