You just lived in the wrong part of Colorado. It's not like the whole state is that way, or even close. Hell, I wouldn't want to live in that part even if it were the cheapest. Bleh.

Mississippi and Alabama with this salaries puts you near the top. I plan on having two houses paid off at retirement with zero in Dallas. It is about choices you make. 2 and 3 year old cars are where the good deals are at.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun a beautiful place to visit, but to commute and/or drive around there daily is a beating. I suppose it's all about what you're used to.

Visiting SF and living there = 2 totally different things.

Market value of my sister's house here in Chula Vista is about $485k right now. Her husband bought it 25+ years ago so it's been paid off for a while and he's a disabled senior citizen so taxes are CHEAP. He added an apartment on the second floor and converted half the garage to another apartment. He used to have an RV in the driveway they also rented out.

That's how most of the neighbors can afford to live here as well. The streets are completely packed with parked cars because 2-3 families live in every house.

I'm already scaling back after moving to Colorado. The new house ($468000) is 400sqft smaller than our Denton house (which was 2400sqft) but cost $1000 extra per month ($2444 a month total) even though I put $90K down. The fees for a license plate are flat out robbery. I sold the Porsche, the week before moving, because it would cost about $1500 to license it (and $1000 to ship it). I killed DirecTV (cutting the cord completely). I also have to pay income tax now and I'm just getting started with the extra costs of living here.

But my wife is happy and I get great mountain views. I'll buy another Porsche, but it'll be used this time around.

So y'all can pull my baller status now. $180K a year is just middle class around here.

Hell 1 Bedroom apartments are $1k/month in North ft worth/Keller area.

At least some of you have some mountains or beaches.

The past time in DFW is shopping and eating.

If I walk to the upstairs patio at my sisters I can see Tijuana (which is mountainous), the border wall and the ocean. Head two hours east and you're at Glamis, north and it's LA, west your shark bait and south you'd be in Ensenada.

After hearing what some of you are paying for apartments I don't feel quite so bad about the 1200 I'm paying to RENT my 1500 Sq ft 3bed, 2.5bath, 2car garage house with a view of the Sandia mountains (hardly a mountain range).

                          QFT!
That may be the greatest saving grace of the Denver area. There are so many cool things you can do for free. I only go to Boulder to drive through it on the way to the mountains.

Any decent Mexican food up there? We go to Denver every now and then and haven't been able to find anything worth a shit, but we don't really know our way around. We're headed up there this weekend, and with all the Cinco De Mayo shit on TV, we're craving some decent Mexican food. Looking more for upscale/from scratch/nice patio vs hole-in-the-wall taco shop.

The only things I miss about DFW are food, friends, and family, pretty much in that order.

For now I must say no. I haven't found one yet. But then I've only been here for two weeks and I haven't been looking.

I'm still looking for decent BBQ. We have a Rudy's up on Ft Collins but that is a half hour drive. No good donuts either. Erie, CO is a damn dead zone for dining. The redeemer is Beer. Glorious microbrew beer all over the damn place. Pizza is pretty good too.

No good Mexican food, but you need to experience casa bonita at least once.... probably just once. I shall never go back.
