That's a big negative on groceries. My wife has me go to fucking Albertsons for their sunday to tuesday sales, Dr Pepper and coke 4 for 10 etc. Don't get groceries from Walmart

Having worked retail all of my life, I can say I hate retail.

We also use amazon, they have everything, and most retailers just carry a fraction of things you want or need.

It's only a matter of tme till amazon starts opening up feeder stores and delivery sites. I'm thinking fully automated kiosks, their logistics process is already so automated robots pick items for deliveries, imagine next day pick up at location for a cheaper rate than their next day prime. Cheaper to ship to site using a big rig

Best Buy is proof that brick and mortar CAN survive and even thrive in this new world. The main thing they did was GREATLY improve the customer experience. It can still be a mixed bag but it's vastly better than it was just a few years ago.

People still want a lot of their products NOW. They also want the good customer experience that can come with it. IF they know brick and mortar isn't going to be a beating, they'll use it.

A good example of the good an bad came to me last week at Best Buy in Longmont, Co. I decided to do the cord cutting thing and forgo getting cable or satellite. I needed an internet device to support this (Roku, Chromecast, AmazonFire, AppleTV). I also wanted one that supported 4K. I also needed this device to support PlayStation Vue.

The girl that came up to help me didn't know anything about this stuff so she called the GeekSquad desk. He promptly said that a Playstation Vue was only supported by PlayStation 4. This is something I knew to be false and I called them on it. Fortunately a Magnolia associate was nearby and stepped in. HE knew EVERYTHING. He got me setup with a Roku Ultra, a nice OTA antenna, $40 bundle discount I didn't know about, and then told me exactly where to point the antenna for the best signal. He saved the sale and potentially will have me coming back for a 4K TV, later in the year.

Best Buy is a good example of what a great CEO can accomplish. Compare them with Sears if you want to see two extremes.

I like browsing BB because of their open box deals.

                Roku Ultra is pretty cool.

However IMHO the NVidia Shield is a better streaming option.

Either way, welcome to the cordless club!!

Good for them. They need to change their name then because they are otherwise useless.

This is very true. When I'm in the market for things, I want it now. Sometimes I'll even pay a higher price to get it now vs. a lower price plus shipping and having to wait.

This is also partly why I quite going to GNC. They beat you to death with their sales pitch from the moment you walk into the door. It's been a while but the last time I was in one of their stores, it looked like the shelves were filled with nothing but their product lines. I'll happily wait a few days to get my stuff than have to deal with their BS.

I worked in retail for 10 years and after that retail sales for two years. I was being recruited by a headhunter around year 9 to go work in Bermuda at some grocery establishment. We had extensive conversations about the work place and over saturation based on sales figures for here VS where he was from. These companies have gotten greedy and now it is finally biting them on the ass. You do not need a grocery store in every damn town, on every corner. Two stores in a town and all you have done is doubled your overhead and split your clientele. The problem is if you don't do it someone else will. Now the internet is making that even worse.

We were going to Winstar the other day and I noticed that big ass strip mall on the west side of 35 is empty up towards Gainsville or around there. I didn't think that thing was that old.

The outlet mall? It was packed last time I paid attention. You could film an episode of The Walking Dead at the one in Waxahachie though.

A victim of horrible placement and growth. There's better strip malls whichever direction you drive down 35, plus Waco has grown enough to have most of the stuff it had.

No idea, it is kind of in the middle of no where with a truck stop across the street. It was Saturday and not one car.

Yeah I googled mapped the area and I think it is Burkes Outlet. Looks like very few stores left.
