  • Timing chain and cam retard question

    Does this chain look stretched?

    vs.

Lastly, anyone have any experience with retarding cam timing? I have a replacement FMS double roller with index markings that came with the truck. The place I took the heads to was actually talking about how they use to retard the cam 4*. I'm treading in unchartered waters with that so I figured I'd see what some of you veterans know.

This will be my daily driver....actually, I just answered my own question. Being a daily, I'll just stay away from retarding my cam. Sometimes I just need to think things "out loud". Question still stands about the current chain.

Its stretched a little but I've seen much worse. Had one a couple years ago that was so bad the chain was slapping the inside of the timing chain cover

Dont retard the cam, if anything just stick it straight up or 2 degrees advanced

Retarding a cam gives you slightly more high RPM HP while advancing gives you more low end HP...For the street, like I said straight up or 2 advanced
