Holy shit that's excessive! I understand why the punishment is so strict, and why they have to take it seriously, but wow. And yeah, that wasn't exactly smart.

I think you are handling it quite well. It's just sad, that every thing is blown out of portion now days. But it is a crazy world.

We're going to plead not guilty to the citation/court appearance. The extremes that the school is going through more than fits the mold IMO.

He's a "first offender", gets mediocre grades and doesn't get in trouble. It was a stupid mistake and he is incredibly remorseful for it.

From what I've seen, the citation/charge doesn't fit, therefor we are just going to contest that piece. He knows he has to suck it up and spend the next 3 months at an alternative school, though.

I'm also making him get his license, a job, and a car. Severe punishment, I know....

You'd be surprised how lax and lazy kids are these days.

I can recall when my Engllish teacher had spent the period to belittle me in front of class.

I know that my behaviour for the year was less than stellar, and it is why she lashed out at me on this day. However, this day was a good day for me. I wasn't disrupting class at all. Therefore, I stood up, flipped the teacher off, screamed out "fuck you", and walked to the principal's office before she even told me to.

I went to OCS for 3 days. It was awesome, because I was able to catch up all my work from skipping class in the previous weeks, as well as getting all of my work for the next 3 weeks done.

I don't think the punishment is excessive at all. In fact, I honestly think you've waited too long for trying to get him to focus on responsibilities.

Needs to be careful at 18, that's when shit starts to stick around waaay too long.

About the kid who called in the bomb threat. At that age, it should be a severe whooping and grounding. IMHO, kids make extremely dumb decisions at that age. Next they'll be sending toddlers to jail for pissing in the wrong way or something.

No shit. I loved OCS. It was like a vacation away from the mouthbreathers.

My grandparents told me that school was my job until I was 16 and after I turned 16 I could find something, but I had to maintain my GPA if I wanted to work.

You can sack groceries at 15 at Winn Dixie.

I just mowed lawns (one was freaking 4 acres on the side of a hill for 20 damned dollars!) in WV for cash prior to working mcdonalds. Fast food was pretty easy in comparison to what a sub 16 y/o kids has to do to make money.

Couldn't around here, my grandpa worked for them for a loooooong time and he couldn't even get me a job there. My brother did work there when he was 16, though.
