  • Can anyone figure out the angle on this scam?

    Quoted from FB.

"A man in a black sports SUV drove up to my husband just now while we were changing our baby in the parking lot of Home Depot in Rockwall and told my husband he wants to give us a watch. He had his hand out and tried to get my husband to come to his SUV. He had a passenger. Not sure what the goal was but I watched him drive through the parking strip where all the shops are and he's driving up to people towards the back of parking lots. I already reported it but I couldn't get a license plate or make and model because he sped off so quickly."

As a robbery. its done 2 or 3 ways
      - come to the car and the vic gets a gun in the face
      - come to the car and they grab a wallet or phone and drive sometime grabbing the vic and dragging them outside the car
      - come to the car, and while the vic is distracted another conspirator steals from the vic's car

      As a grift,
      - a knockoff and hard luck story looking for a donation
      - a knockoff and a I found this watch story would you like to buy it

The person should contact the police and or the shopping center as this type of crime is very predatory and often turns violent

That's all the scenarios I can figure too.

No matter what, nobody is getting a good deal in that situation.

Surprise buttsecks is the most likely scenario.

Either the guy is loaded and is trying to share the wealth by giving away watches, or he owns a watch factory and needs to make room by getting rid of old inventory. Those are the only reasonable options I can think of.

I had someone in Crowley offer me a great deal on a set of speakers while sitting in traffic on Crowley Road.

On fairfax underground there is a long thread about two travelers/Italian guys in SUV saying they work for Armani and was a a trade show and they didn't want to take jackets back to Italy and pay import taxes .They would give you a good deal on leather jackets. Been seen in. California, Dallas, New York etc .fake leather , cheap jackets and a lot of people fell for it. Might be similar with watches.

Anyone that falls for it deserves to lose their money and should probably get their ass kicked for good measure. This was a tan Dodge Caravan with a guy and his girlfriend looking for a mark. I was carrying at the time otherwise I wouldn't have rolled down my window.
