Tyler State Park, Eisenhower State Park, Bob Sandlin State Park, Mineral Wells State Park are the places that we camped in recently. Enjoyed them all, especially the first 2. There's a common theme if you can find it. A park pass will be a plus if you plan on going more than twice.

And I think with the Park Pass you get to two 50% off coupons if you stay more than two nights. Plus you get in free at any State Park along with anyone else in your vehicle. So I think you just pay for the camping fee.Originally posted by slow84lx View PostTyler State Park, Eisenhower State Park, Bob Sandlin State Park, Mineral Wells State Park are the places that we camped in recently. Mineral Wells has lots of poison ivy right along the paths from the cabins to the lake. It was good other than that.Originally posted by slow84lx View PostTyler State Park, Eisenhower State Park, Bob Sandlin State Park, Mineral Wells State Park are the places that we camped in recently. Tyler State Park is beautiful, but I dislike how close the sites are to each other. Not much privacy if the park is crowded.
I like Cedar Hill State Park a lot, but I haven't been since they closed a bunch of the spots from the flooding.
I like the dispersed camping at LBJ Grasslands, but you have to like camping without power, water, etc. Also, with 20,000 acres, it helps if you know how to find the right spots.

LBJ is the most mislabeled, mismapped, and confusing place in Tx, I think. Lots of potential wasted there.Originally posted by jluv View PostTyler State Park is beautiful, but I dislike how close the sites are to each other. Not much privacy if the park is crowded.

Nothing I hate more than camping next to someone you don't know in a State Park and there is no separation between the camp site; especially if they have kids or the park is real crowded. One thing I like about Cedar Hill is that it's close. One thing I hate about Cedar Hill is that it's close. So it gets crowded when the weather is good, it's a weekend, or it's a holiday. But it's a good place to get a camping fix and if you get there early enough you can get a pretty good campsite with some privacy. But due to the flooding from a couple of years back, a lot of the park is still closed which makes it more crowded during prime camping times.Originally posted by jluv View PostTyler State Park is beautiful, but I dislike how close the sites are to each other. LBJ is nice and it's not to far off either. I've checked it out and there are some nice places to camp there. Haven't been to Tyler yet but I'm planning a quick trip there sometime in the next few weeks.

It was that way for me the first time I went. I got really lucky finding a primo spot on a creek, with good fishing, and didn't see another soul the whole time. I got there really early on a weekday and spent several hours driving and hiking around until I found it. It was in February and it was cold and misty, but not windy or stormy, so it was perfect camping weather, in my book. I camped in that same spot a few more times, with mixed results on other people being around, but then I ended up talking with the park ranger, and he showed me a couple of other spots. One of them is great, but I did have some assholes come a day after me and set up right next to me.Originally posted by Chas_svo View PostLBJ is the most mislabeled, mismapped, and confusing place in Tx, I think. Spot 41 is the best spot at CHSP, but it's tough to get (if it's even open now). I also like spot 212, which doesn't look great on the map, but it's big and completely surrounded/elevated so that you don't see other people, and for whatever reason, we always have lots of critters come through there - coyotes, rabbits, raccoons, all kinds of birds, snakes, etc. I do hate that it gets so crowded, but it's pretty neat to find such a beautiful park in the middle of the metroplex. I hate that the floods messed it up so bad.Originally posted by Jose View PostNothing I hate more than camping next to someone you don't know in a State Park and there is no separation between the camp site; especially if they have kids or the park is real crowded.
