DALLAS - A Dallas police officer is under investigation over posts she made on Facebook.
The Dallas Morning News and WFAA obtained the postings, which the department calls troubling.
One such post made by Cat Lafitte shows a picture of a black child surrounded by white officers. Under the image, Lafitte wrote "sprinkle some crack on him. LOL"
“I've seen a number of the postings and they do raise serious concerns," said Deputy Chief Mike Genovesi.
On her Facebook page, the officer goes on to brag about an incident where she got into a fight with a nurse at a Plano medical clinic.
"I threw my boot at him Jerry Springer-style and nailed him in the face," she wrote. "It broke his glasses and cut his face and bruised it.”
She also posted derogatory pictures and comments about the homeless, joking that she likes to "bum roll" them, which is police lingo for harassing the homeless.
The Dallas Police Department says it won't put up with officers posting inappropriate material on social media sites. Recently, the department implemented a social media policy.
“The policy is very specific regarding what you can and cannot say," Genovesi said. "Anything that would tend to reduce or impair the public's trust and confidence in the police department won't be tolerated."
The department has yet to fire or discipline anyone over social media posts, and some officers argue that it's their right to post what they want. But, the Dallas Police Department said as long as they wear their badge, they will not have that right.
