I had to ask him, "how do you plan to get the wheel/tire off if you are lifting the car with it?". He looked like I was insulting him and asked if I had a better suggestion. Lol
You have no idea. Or they put the scissor lift on the angled part of the control arm. We carried floor jacks and 4 ways in Red Oak. Two of us could swap a tire in 5 minutes.

Neither my Caddy nor my Miata has a spare. Miata had a jack though oddly enough.

Multiply that by 100k vehicles and see if it doesn't make a difference with your CAFE rating.

I'm guessing these cars aren't coming with run flats, right?

Sounds really dumb to me. I mean, even if you don't change your flat yourself, wtf is roadside assistance going to do, tow you to a tire shop?

Most of them are not run flats, and provide a can of fix a flat and an air compressor.

I think towing the car to a tire shop is exactly what they would do.

This is not limited to Hyundai, here is a list of how many vehicles do this(looks a few years old, so probably worse now) - http://newsroom.aaa.com/wp-content/u..._Aug_20131.pdf

Lower weight and higher fuel efficiency.

There are fewer tire problems with modern cars.

More people have cell phones and roadside service.

                          Increased trunk space.

Fewer people with the skill and willingness to get out the jack and change the tire even if they have one.

I think the real question is, why do they keep putting spares in some cars? Seems antiquated.

I dont have a good way to find out, but Ill wager I sell around a grand a month worth of spare tires and jack & tool kits to Carmax.

Not a bad point, really. I was just noticing you almost never see cars on the road with flats anymore. That said, I sure would hate to be stuck without a spare, especially in the middle of the night.

Yup. My car had a blowout. Limped it somewhere to put spare on the. Drove it some more and blew the spare out in construction zone. They towed it to tire shop and I fixed both tires that day
