If y'all get a chance stop at George's, they have an appetizer that's shrimp, cheese and a pepper wrapped in bacon and cooked and it's damn good.

Agreed. Ownership clearly doesn't give two flying fucks about that place.

I'll second George's, and Vitek's. The BBQ itself at Vitek's is mediocre but the Gut Pak is glorious.

Chef Gus and family are all retired now so no more Elite Cafe.

Health camp is okay and it's also next to Rudy's which is also okay.... Waco is kind of sad as far as food goes compared to Dallas, SA, or Austin, but you gotta eat.

Honestly I'd keep on driving and stop in Belton or Temple, you'll probably be sitting in traffic anyway.

Schoepf's is a couple of blocks from the freeway and it's pretty legit BBQ, especially compared to most of the stuff in DFW. My favorite place North of Austin is Miller's Smokehouse though, 95% as good as Franklin's. The Gin is really great and offers the typical dishes you see in the south.

If you want Italian LaRiv or Pignetti's in Temple are both great.

If you insist on Waco and happen to be rolling through right at noon the Stripes on Valley Mills, across from the old football stadium does some fantastic pork chops. Yeah it's a gas station and it's really close to the hood but the pork chops are awesome and the sides are passable. It's dirt cheap too, under $5. Get there at 12:15 though and they'll be sold out.
