  • Winter coat/jacket....suggestions?

Trying to find a decent winter coat/jacket. It has never been an issue until I go try to get one this year and they all look like the Michelin man costume in various colors? So besides a Michelin man jacket and the obvious cowhide coat, who makes a good coat?

North Face makes a nice coat, sitka gear makes some non camo stuff.

Also hard to beat good old carhart, but the north face will prob be the best looking for all around use.

Carhartt here most of the time just because it is rugged. REI should have some good Northface coats and other brands similar to that. Sometimes Academy will have random good stuff but it is hit and miss. Cabelas and Bass Pro should have coats out by now. Burlington Coat Factory can have some decent deals but you will spend 2 hours trying to find anything.

I have a couple of Carharts and love them, my overalls and heavy coat I've had since 04 and they're still going strong, just put some new deer blood on them last week.

I also have a fleece from Duluth trading that is spot on, very durable and warm.

Check out the local tractor supply, and/or Duluth trading. You won't go wrong either place.

My wife went to the walls outlet and got a couple for me a couple years back, they are great. One is lighter, and has a hood, the other is nice and thick, it's really warm.

Find durable men’s work jackets, shirt jackets, hoodies and more. Dickies outerwear includes extended sizing and a wide range of colors and styles.

I like the Platinum stuff from Columbia, but some of their jackets are the down/fluffy "Michelin Man" style. I have one and like it a lot. Extremely lightweight and incredibly warm. Not as rugged as a Carhart, though.

EDIT - Titanium, not Platinum. I always get those two mixed up. I'm wearing some right now, in fact. This stuff comes in handy when it's below zero and snowy!

I have a North Face canyon wall for cool to cold weather and a carhart with a hood for cold weather and working outside

What kinds of things will you be doing in the coat?.. That is probably the most important question, and it's quite possible that the best solution is more than one.

Is it just for city wear, around town and to the office? Is it for hunting or outdoors work? Camping or hiking? Do you just need it because your vagina cannot handle the cold between the house and car / car and office?

                      Help us help you!

BTW, it's not a Michelin man jacket, it's a puffy jacket. Get it right! Oh, and for what it's worth, a good down jacket is about the best you can get for warmth.

I prefer Mountain Hardware or Columbia, they seem to fit better than North Face. If you live close to a Columbia outlet store they usually have decent deals on jackets.

It's Texas... Who buys a jacket in Texas?

You, obviously, have never lived in the Texas Panhandle during winter! It is the North Pole of Texas.

The only time I regretted not having a jacket is when I went to Chicago in November.
