That and there is definitely a possibility of someone accessing their network through your home connection. It may not seem likely but people do hack into phones and make international calls through them. That's why the people they do let work remotely usually end up with software phones on their work provided laptop that run through a VPN tunnel. Which is throttled down so slow that it'll barely support voice calls under ideal conditions, throw in a little bit of network congestion and they don't work at all.
Our folks that are on call queues remote in this way. Our VPN used to be really nit-picky but they added a couple options (more tunnels,or whatever) so it usually runs smoothly.

I don't use the soft phone personally, but I do play with some pretty sizable files on our networks (50+mb). They used to take forever to open / save while on VPN, but now they are almost as quick as if I am in the office.

I'm not on a call queue so if I really need my work phone to reach me, I can easily set it to forward to my cell phone.

Well, Pueblo does have a pretty bitchin air museum, and you can go to Gray's Coors Tavern (https://foursquare.com/v/grays-coors...0120a1e21b5031) for a "Slopper" and some beers.
