Miyako and I are actually looking to move to Denver as well. My job may be affording me that opportunity next year. We went on vacation there last month and I was sold on moving.

The rent I've been seeing for a 2br place has been roughly $1600 a month. We're probably going to rent for a year and build our dream home west or north of Denver.

There are so many beautiful places in Colorado, I just don't understand why someone would move there, just to live in Denver. I would avoid the Denver area like the plague.. Like, I'd rather just stay in Texas and drive there once or twice a year, like now.

I'd live in COS if I could. Had a great time out there earlier this year.

Yup, friends of mine live in Denver, and out by greelee/Loveland, I tell them the same. They grew up there, though.

Works out well, I suppose. Keep the small towns small. But like Craig said, I'd almost just prefer to live in a place like Fort Worth over Denver. My reason for living here is to be surrounded by mountains and wilderness and to be as far away as possible from the hustle, pollution, concrete and steel, noise, traffic, flashing lights, chain stores, etc of a big city. Even the idea of being based in Denver and spending free time in the nearby mountains doesn't do it for me, because you are sharing those nearby mountains with hundreds of thousands of people who are doing that exact same thing. You typically have to get a few hours away to get away from the crowds, making it more of a trip/vacation thing, and that defeats the purpose of living in CO, for me, personally.

The catch is that most people right now need to be close to a major city for work. That's starting to change, and I think it will be way different in the next 10 years or so, with cube farms becoming obsolete and more people working remotely. It's the life, I tell ya!

I could easily do my job from home, but I hope it doesn't come down to that. My output would greatly decrease from all the distractions.

Funny how that works. I am way more productive from home, because there are too many distractions at the office.

IVe been at my job for around 10 years, and I am straight commission. I could absolutely work from home, though the VP of our region wont let it happen. The majority of my customers have no clue I've officed at 4 different locations or that Im 200 miles away from the plant that I officially work out of.

What a dickhole. My boss doesn't give a shit as long as I'm seeing customers and my numbers are ahead of plan. If you're down, he'll reel you back in, but that's to be expected. I just wish my customers understood that I am not in front of a computer screen all day. They expect me to pull over and get it done right that second. That shit ain't happening.

I like when they call on the weekend, when they know you're off, and act surprised you can't help them right then and there.

He got burned a few years back, he brought in a friend to help the guy out, and this dude's internet connection was sketchy at best. Rather than pony up some money for better internet, he would just sit around for days on end while the provider sent a tech to work on it. Im sure it left a bad taste in this VP's mouth, so he's been against working from home since. He did grant me permission to work remotely while my wife was in the hospital, but IT said there was some sort of issue with our cisco phones being able to work. Likely that our IT department doesnt have a clue what they are doing with them.

I'll likely be having this same conversation when we have the down-payment for our next home, hopefully I'll fare better, as I'm already working from home. It would cause the extra expense of a few plane tickets per year though, easily justifiable considering the revenue I bring in, but not an automatic yes. We'll see how it goes...

Part of my deal was I told them I would come back and work a couple of weeks 3-4 times per year, but they don't really hold me to that. It just works well for us to be able to go back to Texas and see friends and family and eat good food and not have to take vacation time to do it. We just drive it because we have our dog to take with us.

When I started working from home, I was the only one doing it, but now that it has worked out so well, they have started letting others who have their shit together do the same thing. I'm still the only one working out of state, though.

I really do get way more done this way. When I get back from working a couple of weeks in the office, I have to play catch-up and get back in my groove.

We're toying with the idea of getting an RV and traveling around to state parks, staying for a couple of weeks at each and working from there during the week.
