The first time she would have screamed at me in my own house she would have been pondering how tightly woven the carpet is from less than an inch above it. I'm not saying that is what you should have done, just me.

I know you won't take this advice because I know how the dynamics work but you and your mom need to stop enabling your sister. It really is as simple as that.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

Im sorry you had to deal with all this. I know some of the stress you had to put up with. Unfortunatly your neice suffers most. Just realize that thing will be MUCH better for you and your kids. Family can be shitty sometimes and in rare occasions, life can be much better without them in the picture.Originally posted by Marisawe women are all irrational and emotional and insane...some just hide it better than others.

These are my favorite quotes...maybe they can help you.
"Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference!" - Serenity Prayer
My father's twist on this, which has stuck with me through the years, is there is something in every situation we encounter that we have power over...and that's ourselves! If you say,"They did this to me. It's their fault!" then you've surendered your power and made yourself a slave to the situation. IF, however, your thought process is,"What can I do differently for a better outcome?" then YOU have the power.
For example: You opened your home. That's honorable. Next time, I propose ground rules. "You are welcome here, but this is my Home, my Castle and my refuge from the evils and stress of the outside world! IF YOU BRING CONTENTION HERE YOU ARE NOT WELCOME AND YOU WILL LEAVE!!!" Hell...put it in ink! Just because you're doing a favor, doesn't mean they get free run to bring their problems to your door step!
"We see people, not as they are, but as WE are." -7 Habbits of Highly Effective People To me, this one explains why your sister's behavior was so shocking to you. It's not your way. Bitting the hand that feeds you makes no sense to you. I find myself rowing that very same boat, OFTEN!!!
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men/women do nothing." -Edmund Burke I don't know that this one could be applied to your situation...I just like it! ;o)
And finally: "No good deed goes unpunished!" -Clare Boothe Luce
It is my belief that the act of kindness is it's own reward, BUT that does not mean I don't HOPE that deeds that go unrewarded in this life, won't be leveled in our favor in Heaven!(If you believe in such a place.)
Sorry...I just had to comment. I have an exwife a lot like your sister! Long as my kids grow up happy and healthy, all the pain and cheek turning will have been worth it! However, my mother is living proof that a heat and pressure can make diamonds! We gotta have faith either way!
