  • Leon...the real one

Only the old schoolers will know the Leon I am speaking of...the heavy set black gay Leon...the one who over the years has owned many fast Fox bodies...he was a tuner. He built several fast cars. The one most people remember was the Teal green LX Coupe with the pink intake. Its been years since he was a regular on the boards..if ever. He did a lot of racing at the various tracks and at one point worked for a local Mustang shop. He was, and it seems is still the butt of many jokes. He died last Saturday from a lengthy battle with cancer. He went from his normal 300+pound happy self to about 140 pounds over the last couple of years while he fought his evil cancer...while continuing to work non stop to pay mounting medical bills until the very end. He was always a cheerful, happy (sometimes quite cocky about the various Mustangs he tuned and drove) guy that seemed to enjoy all things Mustang and Ford...I don't think I ever saw him drive anything but a tuned Mustang. Not sure who is using the name "Leon" on the board as a punchline in gay jokes..I just wish you would stop insulting him. He was a great guy that deserves a little better than being a punchline. I was informed Saturday of his death...but being in New Mexico I will not be able to attend his funeral. Anyone interested in the arrangements can contact Pat at Pizza Inn in Midlothian TX....I'm sure he can give all the info.

That sucks to hear. Its been years since I've seen Leon. I believe the last time I saw Leon he had a Orange Coupe or something. I remember racing him back when he had the UFO Racing window banner on his White Coupe back in around '93... RIP Brother

Never knew him, but knew of him. Every now and again I would get to see his coupe at the pizza place. RIP

All I know is Dave started using the screen name as therapy to deal with his gay identity in anonymity. Perhaps he's back to scratch that itch?

I met him a couple of times at CiCi's in Arlington. That pink blower was kind of strange but he had one of the fastest cars around for a few years. RIP.

Wow! Hadn't talked or heard his name mentioned in years! I met him and Archy a few times but didn't really know him that well. I still think I have the issue of MM&FF somewhere that the UFO guys were in. RIP Leon.

He was talking about Tommy. He bought the orange coupe from Lane. Tommy passed a few years ago.

                            Damn.

Leon was a weird dude but he was always around the south Dallas street races back when I used to do that shit. That pink S-trim was so polarizing, so unmistakably "gay Leon", but nobody every forgot it when they saw it.

I remember the "UFO Racing" guys being out at the Motorplex a bunch and dialing in their dry kit EFI tunes. That blue GT (in the photo below) was running without a hood and it had a nasty nitrous backfire. The explosion blew out the intake, and a yellow Mazzios's Pizza cup they had stuck to the MAF shot about a hundred feet in the air. They had no money and no idea what they were doing, but nobody did. They were having fun.

                            RIP Leon (not pictured, lol)
