I don't think there is anything that you can do. I'm not even sure that you have a legal leg to stand on. A bill of sale doesn't mean anything here, the title is the proof of ownership.

What I have seen over the years is people get a title loan and then go to the DMV and get a certified copy. It takes like 30 minutes of waiting and 5 bucks. They then sell the car and the new owner is fucked. Call the title loan place and see what he owes on it. Work a deal with them and thennnn he would have to get it to you. Part out?

Legal grey area. The state doesn't like it, but from what I understand, there is no specific law preventing it. The only thing they talk about are penalties building up if it's not transferred within 30 days of the date on the title. If it's not dated, well.....

If you ask the state, yes. if it's signed over to you and dated, then yes.

You are going to have to bend over and pay what ever they want you to pay even if the loan has already been paid off unless you seriously expect the guy you bought it from to come up with the receipts for the payments that he made.

I used to do that all the time...I almost got burned doing that.. I bought a car I thought I was going to flip. I mulled it over and was undecided, so I decided to get it titled in my name. GLAD I did. Shortly thereafter my house got burglarized and my safe with all my titles and papers were stolen.. I was able to go to Carrollton and get new titles. Had I not changed that one, I would have gone through hell getting another title. The guy I bought that car from was old and had died..
So now, I always title them. Do a "title only" its cheaper and you dont need insurance or inspection.

Yes but legally your only allowed to flip so many cars a year if you don't have a dealers license and you transfer them in your name, if there salvaged titles it doesn't matter. I never transfer them if im going to flip them cause it only costs me $125 to get a title mailed to my house no matter who the registered owner is or even if there dead thru my hook up in the system. Even if i wait years to transfer and the date on the title is years old i still don't pay penalty fees....

That's how I've been doing it for a while now. Just make sure you see a clear title, and hand it to the next guy. Whoever buys it. May not be a perfect plan but typically it works out fine. Not much alternative, if you're planning on flipping a lot of cars a year. But buying a car without driving away with a title in hand? Fuck no!

Yes i agree with not buying a car with no title, what i do is get the correct VIN # and call my contact and make sure it's clear with no lein (had one with a lein last year and got it off easy) and not stolen. I was afraid of buying cars like that also but now i have nothing to be afraid of and just make sure we can get. Most of the time cars a discounted quit a bit for not having a title. $125 and ill have one and save a good amount of money on the car...
