  • Late fee on title transfer

So, I bought a motorcycle in oct/2014. I waited about several months to transfer the title, and when I went up there, apparently there is a fee per month for not transferring. It had totaled a couple hundred dollars by then.

The employee gave me a form to fill out. Basically it said the seller mis-dated the title, and I could write in whatever date I wanted as long as he would sign it.

To make the story more believable I waited until oct again so it would simply be a mistake in the year. I contacted the seller today and he said he filled out the paper work online stating that he sold me the bike.

My question is, is that going to show up if I try this?

I've considered just writing over the date on the title, which would be obvious, but maybe with our initials over the correction it would pass? My biggest concern is the form he filled out stating he sold the bike in 2014.

    My bad.

Don't cross it out. You're probably screwed if he did the online crap stating that he sold it. The only chance that you have is a statement of fact signed by him and a copy of his drivers license and I am not sure if that will work either.

That fee is complete bullshit. They hit me with it. I had(and still do have) a truck stored in a lot for several months due to it needing an engine rebuild. Finally got around to transferring the title and they stuck me with that fee. Nothing I could do but stand there and take the raping.

For future reference, you can do a title transfer only, no registration, insurance, or inspection required. Once the car is ready, then you can do the registration.

Bummer man. I think it was like $25 a month or something. I had no clue about it.

Now here is the thing,a few years ago i was about to pay one also and it was like $200 or something. The lady was pretty cool about it and handed me a statement of fact then told me to go out in the parking lot and fill it out/sign there name and come back in and see her. It's all in who you talk to up there sometimes...

Not anymore, you need the DL number of the person on the title for a statement of fact to work on a date change.

The other one that gets me is that they make you pay taxes based on the book value of the vehicle, not what you paid for it. Buy a heap with a blown engine to work on and you pay taxes as if it were a nice, running vehicle. Of course you can go pay for an appraisal and take that up there to get a lower rate, but "aint nobody got time fo dat"!

There is that. The laws have changed a lot in the past few years, made things more complicated.
