I cant stand people who dont transfer the title right away. I buy and sell at least once a year and i always transfer to my name immediately. When i sell i fill out the form that i sold it and who to. It is how things are supposed to work. We had a car we sold years ago and learned our lesson with. They never transfered title and then used it in an armed robery. Cops at multiple agencies came after us. They contacted multiple family members to verify we had sold the car. Plus the toll road fees that you continue to be responsible for after selling.

Just pay the fee and get on with life.

The last honda 50 i bought the fees were more than the bikes value. I went to a couple of offices and found a lady that was sympathetic and canceled the fees.

Well if you do things "the right way" those toll road fees means absolutely nothing. All they have to do is look up when you sent in the title top slip to the state and they clear you of all charges then and there all the way back to that date. Did that just 2 months ago,or just pull the plates and you'll never have a charge.

This, I learned my lesson when I sold my 01 mustang. Now when I sell one I pull the plates, date the title and submit the form saying it is sold.

This kind of bullshit is why I stopped registering cars in TX.

I happen to have an SVO that I bought in 94' and have yet to transfer the title and I drive it constantly. The late transfer fees would be more then what I paid for the car at this point if I decided to register the car in TX.

So you drive around with 22yr old tags/plates? Or just get a 30 day temp tag every now and then. You know you could have transferred it in 2004 with no late fees right? 22yr wait is your falt i would imagine not the state....lmao

That's what I did, title transfer only. I'm always swamped and it was just sitting in a lot so I was in no rush to spend a good portion of my day down at the tax office titling it. Little did I know what was awaiting me...

I have half a dozen SVOs and will throw an old out of state vanity plate that says "SVO" on the plate onto the car and have never had a problem even when I have been pulled over. The VIN in no longer in the TX data base and the state the plate came from has permanent plates with hardly any records going back that far.

It all depends on who is at the window. I've had to pay a $200+ fee on a title before, and I've also had them hand it back to me and tell me to make the 3 look like an 8 and give me a wink. I've also had a signature in blue pen and a date in black pen that I was told I needed to contact the seller to fill out the modification form for title submission.

Man my eclipse had the original owner and his wife at the time on the title. One desk clerk wanted me to go back and get both signatures even though the last owners wife passed away. She gave me a huge speech on how I needed to file for a bonded title. I went in the next day and they didn't say a word about it.

So it depends who you dea with at the office

Exactly what i do these days. Pull the plates. People might not like it but too bad.

Yup, went thru it and I will get a car put in my name and not register it until it's road worthy. At this point it's probably cheaper to do a bonded title.

I felt bad about pulling the plates until I found out how easy it was to get the temp tag online.
