  • 2016 f150 sync 3 questions?

I just bought a new 2016 f150 fx4 with the 5.0l. I'm trying to get my iPhone to connect so I can use the apps and I can't get it to work for shit. I've updated the sync 3 and my phone. When I plug my phone in nothing happens. All the videos I've watched show the phone popping up with the CarPlay and then the sync showing the available apps? I've can use Siri with the steering wheel controls and make phone calls. Also, it doesn't have any option for navigation? There's no icon for it. Is all of that an upgrade or something.

The sync 3 does. I just got mine to work. There's 2 USB charging ports. I swapped the port and it started working. I still don't have navigation though. From what I can tell it's an option. That and the climate control. Do I have to go back to the ford dealer and pay for the option? I thought that I could just use the CarPlay feature to use apple maps as the navigation but either I can't or I haven't figured it out

To clarify, I got the ford pass and pandora app to show up but CarPlay isn't popping up.

I wish you luck, I've had my '14 for almost two years and have yet to figure out everything with the sync that my truck has.

I just use it to play music and for phone calls. I don't have the Touch screen though.

I would think the navigation would be an option you have to have on the truck for it to work (needs a GPS antenna) but you could probably do the same with your phone and carplay once you figure that out.

It works fine in my 2017 GT, and will mirror whatever's on the phone, though that's with an android phone. It's not an upgrade that I paid for, other than that I do have the 401A package with voice activated Nav.

All I did was download Android Drive onto the phone and plug it in.

I'm not an iPhone fan at all. I've had galaxy phones since the 4's. wife talked me into getting an iPhone so I could face time with the kids.

For those of you that want to know-the 2016's come with an optional sync 3 but the CarPlay or android auto programs don't work with it. Ford said that there will be a software update that will allow android auto to work with sync 3 but the iPhone CarPlay will require a software and hardware upgrade. The hardware is a new USB port that is compliant with iPhone. All of the 2017's are supposed to have CarPlay and android auto compatibility but none of the 2017 superduty's have it yet. So it seems like Ford is planning to have it but as of right now their vehicles don't.
And navigation/climate control is an option on sync 3 that costs.

Is all of this kerfuffle because you don't want to reach out to touch a button on the center console?

It effectively turns the 8" touchscreen into your phone. I haven't used it much yet, but it's cool to be able to google a location, and have google navigation pop up on the screen, rather than having to dictate or type the address to the car's native navigation.
