Is there a decent FM radio station in DFW?

91.7 out of Gainesville. It is public radio, so no commercials. Since there are no sponsors, the DJ truly does play what they want.
This also means you never know what you're going to get.

89.3 - KNON - It's community radio so you never know what you're going to get. They play a lot of blues and rockabilly in the evenings.
91.7 - KXKT - They play random stuff; some popular bands, some unknowns, but they play songs you won't hear anywhere else
92.1 - Hank FM - Some modern country, some old country.
94.5 - Boom 94.5 - They play "classic hip hop" which is to say it is actually decent music.
95.3 - The Range - Country music with a focus on Texas artists.
95.9 - The Ranch - Kind of the same as 95.3, but I think they play more mainstream songs.
98.7 - KLUV - Their format is "old songs" and that means they mostly play '70s and 80s now.

I can't even listen to 92.5 anymore. Talk about stale, holy shit! They have played the same 40 songs for three decades now, with an increasing focus on Journey. You can't pass by that station without hearing Steve Perry belt out Don't Stop Believin or some shit.

Literally puts me in a bad mood to try and listen to that station these days....Elton John and Billy Joel overload! Whoever the station director is, really need to retire.

My uncle has listened to it for as long as I can remember. I asked him if it ever gets old and his simple response was "No.".

I guess there are a lot of people out there like him. I used to love it in the late 90's early 00's, but it got old.

Correction: I still like to get the Led out at 9pm.

            Sirius/XM ftw for me.

I listen to NPR when unable to access Sirius/XM, it's always good to know what the "other side" considers important.

Same here, my time is worth to much to my self to have to listen to commercials.

My presets haven't changed in years.

                    1. 98.7
                    2. 99.5
                    3. 96.3
                    4 92.5

Rarely listen to the "country" stations, instead my phone has a bunch of 90's and back country hits.

Doesn't clearchannel pretty much monopolize radio now?

Yeah, I think that is probably the biggest problem. I've often wondered what it would take to start-up a privately operated radio station. I think it would be cool to get licensing and play short classic movie clips/quotes between songs or perhaps after every commercial.

I'm sure it would have to be a good balance between music and commercial play, but I wonder if it would even be possible to survive with corp giants like Clear Channel in the mix....doubtful.

No love for 91.7? It's the only non clear channel station left. They have zero commercials, and run off donations.

I got tired of hearing the same shit over and over even on sirius. I spend 9hrs a day at work with headphones in so I stream a bunch and I've got a good 60 gigs of music on this mobile device.

Yeah... so none of the ones I listed are owned by iHeartMedia (formerly ClearChannel).

I don't have a favorite radio station so I don't have anything preset. I just turn the file till I find something that sounds good. Sometimes it's 104.9!!
                                .....bro....
