The modern penitentiary system did not exist until relativity recently and the laws were mostly about real crimes instead of the countless crimes about nothing that we have today. The system that exists today only makes sense to the lawyers that created it. We also did not have a very large minority population that was somewhat predisposed to criminal behavior like we do today. Strong religious beliefs held by the majority of the population helped keep crime rates low to.

Mark only killed one person with a hatchet. The kid he killed by holding under water until they drowned.

I should tell you about Frank Perry who was only one of 3 black males in my highschool. He murdered a 7 11 clerk in Addison during a robbery with a Dan Wesson .38 that he took out of my garage. His parents were so damn rich that he nearly walked on the case despite being on video doing it.

Most of his stories predate the Internet, I was able to verify a few of his stories in a few news clipping archives I found scanned online. The one I verified was about a guy with a turbo rx7 waiving a gun and shooting a police officer

Edit: It looks like I will have to hit the court house in person to find the records for Frank. He got 40 years but only served ten even though the law mandates that you must serve 85 percent of your sentence on a 3g offense before becoming eligible for parole. His parents bonded him out on a million dollars cash bond and sent him out of the country until the DA agreed to the plea. They have since spent a pile of money purging the records of what he did and he is now an MD in the Philippines to the best of my knowledge.

In the mid 80s the cops were interviewing some killer and he told them that he dumped a body in the woods around Lake Lewisville. They get a search team together along with a few cadaver dogs and start looking. They found 27 bodies and none of them was the one that they were looking for. It was so unsurprising that it barely made the local news.

I had a paper route and read the paper everyday. The story was in the Lewisville Leader I think.
