The Fox thing was a joke because everyone always says to get a Fox and put x dollars in it to make it do whatever and then they rag on C5s because of the interior or because they are 'plastic'.

I like that body style as well. Really any Corvette other than the 81-82 ones with the stupid 305 and th-400 is a decent car. Sure the suspension leaves a lot to be desired but outside of Ferrari or Porsche offerings it was the best you could get in that time frame. You can only do so much with 6" wide tires.
I absolutely hate the rear lower control arm shims for alignment and the pressed in axle bearings on all of those cars but other than that they are relatively easy to work on and pretty reliable. Well that and make sure you open the doors if you ever put it up on a lift, it can break the doors or latches if you don't. Not as cool as ripping a hole in the floor board or cracking a 1/4 panel on the new ones if you lift it wrong but still pretty exciting.

I had plenty of experience with those cars and even had one regular customer with a Zimmer. Basically a stretched 81 Vette with a wannabe Rolls Royce front end. All the poor performance an anemic 305 could offer, coupled with a 4,000 pound car. Anything you had to do on a Vette was 3x as difficult on the Zimmers. Thank goodness they switched to Fords!

The only 305-powered Corvettes ever made were the cars built in 1980 for California, and that was for CARB emissions compliance. Every other Corvette from 1975-1996 used the old 4.00x3.48 350ci SBC.When the government pays, the government controls.

And sure, they're a great all around buy for the money, especially if you like a mildly stylized bar of soap with an interior designed and put together by someone from, well, Kentucky.
I also think that anyone that's ever spent more than a few minutes on this website is fully aware that the overwhelming board recommendation is a C5 Vette. Do we really need another thread of that? A little outside the box thinking would go a long way here, but I won't hold my breath.Last edited by Slowhand; 02-18-2011, 09:57 PM.
