Sometimes, it's just the sales job you put on it. My crazy neighbor used to go out into the woods and find a stick and a pretty rock. Then, she would tie it up with some wire. She would write a neat, Harry Potter type story about how it had magical powers, blah, blah, blah. Then, she would put it on ebay. I shit you not, I saw several auctions where people paid over $50. People will buy ANYTHING on ebay.
