  • Dallas' loose dog crisis

There are 8,700 loose dogs roaming the streets of Southern Dallas.

    ...

The report says the City of Dallas needs to increase its annual budget for animals services by $2.7 million. On top of that, the plan calls for spending as much as $7.5 million a year for three years to provide free or low cost neutering services for 46,000 dogs annually.
How about paying people $20 bounty for each dog they bring in to the pound? Migrants will pick up 8,700 dogs in a month at a cost $174,000.

With sign waivers that city is not responsible for injuries, I think that is fine. Otherwise by the time the lawsuits are up for everyone getting bit, it'll be in the billions.

I understand they're dogs, and they are man's best friends. But at this point they're no better than feral hogs/coyotes/pythons in the everglades. Put a $5 price on their hides and solve it for pennies on the dollar.

except crackheads would kill your pet and take it in rather than try to chase a loose one.

That part of Dallas is nuts. The largest urban forest in the country is there and most people don't even realize it. It also is infested with hogs.

You'd have every crackhead in DFW jumping fences to steal people's dogs they take care of if you put bounties on them.

And there is the real problem with the idea. It's easier to steal a fenced in dog than catch one that is roaming the streets.
