I haven't got a Summit catalog in months.
I've been using Jegs a lot lately because they sell Golden Star sheet metal I need for current project.

32,000 sqft will be for the retail store. The entire building is going to be 700,000. Per the article above.
I was about to say 32k square feet inst much for a company like Summit who pushes a lot of volume and has inventory like a mofo. LOL

And 700,000 is huge for a parts warehouse. I wonder what else will be in the building? Call center, headquarters, shop?

That's gonna be on the way to and from work. Gonna have to resist stopping and shopping more than I need to.

They are going to lose a lot of business from Texas...or, ME. The sales tax thing is a deal breaker. I will however be happy to use their site to locate the manufacturer number and then buy online for cheaper just like I do now about 50% of the time but now that I'll have to pay tax, nearly ALL of the other web vendors will be cheaper and provide similar two day shipping. Not sure this is going to work out for them unless they offer discount codes for Texas sales to offset the sales tax... Any idea what they offer for residents where they have their other wearhouse?

With as little margin that is in the parts, I doubt they will offer anything close to a 7% savings off total ticket prices. They have to show the sales to state residents and will have to kick those taxes to the states, as you know. If they don't collect that 7% they have to eat it and I doubt they will with that little margin on the table.

Big ticket items will probably be the only thing they notice Texans not purchasing. The rest, where the 7% sales tax isn't noticed when the customer can get it in a day without the over night costs or even better when they can pick it up from their warehouse here locally.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Also keep in mind that they'll have a ton of commercial accounts. Almost everyone I know with a race car has some kind of business license. If your business sponsors your race car then those sales shouldn't be taxed.

                    There's always cheaper, somewhere.

For me, this new summit will be 8 miles from my house, and with the retail store being open M-F 9a-9p, the smaller stuff that I would normally wait to get a bigger order so I could save on shipping wont be an issue for me. I'll go pick it up. The bigger ticket items will still be shopped. Spending 4 bucks on tax for a 50 sale is still cheaper than shipping, most of the time.

Maybe the retail store will make up for it there for DFW folks? However, i find most of the stuff they carry elsewhere like Amazon or even eBay for a LOT less, I just have to get the part number from summit first to narrow down the myriad of crap available online. For years summit used to be the go to source for me but as internet suppliers started getting better storefronts and selling from the same supplier as summit with less overhead .....my costs went down as most items drop shipped direct from manufacturer such as ARP....fuck summit on ARP....

doubt it will bring them 80mil to cover the building, but shipping to cali in a day or two from DFW might. They have a solid market share, and do a ton of wholesale, so just you and I arent really where the money is.

They will almost undoubtedly run Atech out of the same warehouse with will call and deliveries to local shops. I am certain anything I buy from them will go right onto my sisters Atech account and I will pay her via CC for cost plus 3%cc fees. Save on the tax and get it for a better than advertised price.

All of the big box high performance stores are a rip off, you're paying a lot for that availability. Shop parts at Summit and then check the same part price at Smiley's and see who's cheaper.

I like Smileys, but I beg to differ on pricing:
                                Simple intake:
High Performance Circle Track and Oval Track Race Parts for Sprints, Late Models, Modifieds and Street Stocks

Find Parts and Accessories edelbrock 2701 KEYWORD and get Free Shipping on Orders Over $109 at Summit Racing!

Thats 119 at Summit with the rebate and $149 at Smileys. And I doubt Smileys will price match ANY price on the web.
I like the guys over there at Smileys, but you can beat the big box on most deals
