I've had a Nest for three years and it has definitely paid for itself. However it isn't all roses.

    1. There is the security threat that Tx Redneck mentioned.
    2. Nest has TWICE screwed up firmware updates that left us without heat last winter. Fortunately it was a mild winter and I have two fireplaces.
    3. Google owns Nest and they have confirmed that they are collecting data on your energy use, when you're home, the temp you keep your home, etc, etc...

That said, I'm keeping it for now but I'm knowledgeable enough that I can swap in a dumb thermostat if I ever need to.

I have a nest but most of the smart controls are shut off. I want my house a constant temp all the time. My schedule varies so it doesnt help with that either.

I've had my Nest since they came out and haven't had any issues with it yet, there worth every penny and will pay itself back fairly soon. Best thing is you can keep track of it daily and they will learn a pattern or just keep it off all day and turn it on 30min before you leave work on your phone and that alone will save some cash. I figured the majority of people with central air had them already since companies are giving them away when you sign up for service lol....any "smart"meter without WiFi is stupid in my opinion but probably better than what you currently have.

I have the ecobee II with an extra sensor. I love being able to program it so that I wasnt wasting electricity when nobody is at the house, being able to use the the second sensor to get a more comfortable temp when everybody is upstairs, and I've been able to remotely control the houses hvac when I needed to work late or leaving early. Its really helped with my electric bill

That's fucking ridiculous at 69. I thought it was nice and cool at leaving mine at 73.

Since we have dogs, and the AC runs all day when its 105 outside I don't see the draw. I have yet to live in a house that had a cycling system when it was hot outside, unless I had a new bigger system put in with better roof vents to lower the inside humidity. My current set up is decent but if I let it raise during the day it would probably recover around midnight. Now if I lived in a apartment and had no pets I could see this working fantastic. Orrrr if my system would knock it down in an hour I might raise the temp a little.
                      Whos your Daddy?

seems like alot of nest holders in here but I have yet to hear any mention of the "faulty wiring system". This may have to do with the fact I was shopping around when they had just came out but I did hear a few stories. I'm sure they've fixed it but something to think about if you're shopping around on clist or buying used.

Although this isn't the issue I was referring to, here's an article I found detailing another issue - http://www.businessinsider.com/nest-...problem-2014-1

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

That's the sleep temp (overnight). I'm a heat generator and need it cold. In addition to that temp I have 2 fans blowing on me.

Usually it's at 72.. Auto away takes it up to 76..

The internal battery will likely be dead from sitting for so long. Do yourself a favor and charge it fully with the micro USB cable before installing. It can take a few hours to charge fully from the low voltage wiring alone, during which time you can't run the A/C.

Called nest tech support and they told me to charge it up for about 30 mins and it should be good. Just installed it and it seems to be working. Still trying to figure out all the stuff it does.
