  • Non-dealers flipping diesels?

I'm looking for a clean 05-07 F250 either King Ranch or Lariat and I keep running across people on craigslist/auto trader who (from what I can tell) just buy and flip diesel pickups. I've called at least 5 people locally (DFW area) to ask about a certain vehicle listed and they tell me that it has sold and they have a couple more to chose from, or even if it is available that they have another 2 or 3 options. I didn't even know that was a thing. Anyone ever dealt with these guys?

I plan on taking whatever I buy in for a pre-purchase inspection at a reputable diesel shop/dealer but is that enough precaution? I'd rather buy from a private seller, but that seems tough to find since all of these I have had similar responses on don't have a store front, they just strangely have 3-4 nice diesel trucks for sale.

I don't see what the difference is, you're just as apt to get misleading info from a private seller.

Sounds like a decent enough business plan, so long as one has the capitol, and there's high enough demand. Buy up all the available used trucks, and set your own price.

I've been shopping diesels again lately myself...it does seem that the majority out there are dealers or flippers....very few individual sellers.

I'm looking for a early Super Duty with a 7.3, and they are getting harder to find...I can't believe what some are asking for those trucks now.

Where all are you looking? I've been using searchtempest.com, autotrader.com, cars.com, ebay, dieseltraderonline.com.

There's a HUGE market in Texas for these trucks. Most of them are former oil field trucks with fairly low miles from North/South Dakota, and Utah.

If they're flipping that many, they should at least have a dealers license. You might check them out before purchasing.

The OBS 7.3 Is waaaay overpriced now. I've been searching all of those. Finding one low miles in good shape is damn near impossible for under 16k

Sure it's possible a private owner would mislead me, but at least there is a chance the private owner has some kind of knowledge of the history of the vehicle. It's crazy all the used car dealers have trucks with 250k miles "all highway" lol

while I tend to agree, 6.0's are the last vehicle I'm buying from a used dealer or flipper... and I've flipped a number of them. But I typically end up selling my trucks to friends.

              it's getting hard to find a 6.0 I trust.

I'm about to give away my '09 CCLB Lariat

Bought a 6.0L with 180K on it from a private seller. He had service history, the whole shebang. 2 weeks later it needed an HPOP and a bunch of other work. Crap can happen either way.

Yeah, the OBS trucks are just stupid expensive now. I've owned several of them over the years, and I'd go for another one if it was the right price/miles...but it isn't likely I'll come across that combo. I've been shopping the 99-03's more-so lately, and they are pricey for the clean lower mileage ones now too.

I'd love to have something like this, but it's way over-priced, a lonnng ways away, and awfully close to salt water....

Saw this one pop-up on Ebay recently for a short auction....

Surprised it doesn't have any bids yet, but I'll bet it goes a bit over $20K. That low of mileage is about unheard of on an OBS these days.

I remember for my first truck begging my dad for a black 97 F350 4x4 power stroke. The dealership had a new one on the lot but he wouldn't budge. I still look for them occasionally, but just have no room for one.

Not surprising, the world is awash in money right now so everyone is a speculator.

I am trying to get into a 2015 or 2016 Dodge and have noticed the same thing.

Shit! I need to give my 7.3 a bath and put it up for sail, sell, sale.
