  • Best Website/Agency for Booking a Tropical Vacation

I know there have been a million threads on vacations, but I'd rather start my own. I'm more or less looking for suggestions on what websites or agencies to use. I kinda want to go somewhere different and unique where almost no one I know of has been, so specific suggestions on locations aren't really what I'm looking for. I've googled it, and just get a bunch of shitty, generic ad websites. Is there a website or travel agency that's user-friendly, thorough, and good for tailor-making specific packages?

    Thanks in advance.

Just pick a place, buy a travel guide that has hotel and hostel recommendations, food, etc. Get on a plane and go. Pick a city, go see it, then pick a different and go again. Buses, trains, use whatevr is there. Each city you stop in, see what you came to see, then pick another site in another town and go. This is how I toured Korea and the Philippines. Most of the vacation planned a day at a time with no main goal. Best vacations I ever had by far.

As far as where to stay?

          Nothing beats vrbo.com....

Not the type of vacation I'm looking for. Thanks, though!

Thanks! I'll check that out. Not looking for cheap or anything generic, but I will check it out anyway.

Great. Thank you! That sounds like what we're looking for.

Im not just looking for flights and a place to stay. We use vrbo a lot and love it, but this is going to be more of a full-service luxury vaca where we have people bringing us drinks and taking us places, etc.

Plan your luxury travel through our network of the world's finest travel agencies with Advisors who draw upon first-hand experience to craft the perfect vacation for you.

Aside from excellent travel advisor help you will also get a lot more amenities which they have pre-negotiated at the destinations (you can see the list at each hotel).

If you do not have access to Amex FHR benefits then Virtuoso is the next best.

Ya, as mentioned before, I have used VRBO for many years, and have stayed at some great places, but that's not what I'm looking for this go around. It's basically going to be a honeymoon, and we're looking for something upscale, all-inclusive, and full-service. So, unless the vrbo comes with waiters, maids, room service, and a personal driver/tour guide, it won't fit the bill this time.

Just got off the phone with her. Super cool lady. We got a good enough vibe that we'll be waiting to see what she can do for us instead of shopping around. Thanks again for the recommendation.

                      You're welcome. She's awesome.

You should look at Beaches Resort on Turks and Caicos as well. Very beautiful.

But, don't overlook Hawaii. We go every year. The Grand Hyatt or St Regis Resort on Kauai are amazing. That is a very tropical island.

Agreed. Beaches / Sandals have almost perfected the all inclusive stuff. If you opt for Turks just know it's about 50% more in cost when you compare same levels at other Beaches / Sandals due to popularity (lots of small children). The beach there is worth it. They also have excellent butler level suites and service where you get 2 or 3 butlers during your stay and a dedicated cell phone to reach them 24/7.

I've done their butler service several times at different islands and it's worth it.

That's an excellent recommendation. When we went, we did a Huleia River kayak tour (i think that's the one) that had a nature hike to a water fall, and a lagoon with a rope swing. It was the highlight of the trip for me.

The wife and I have just never had much interest in Hawaii. For me, I guess the only reason is that I'm more into checking out the wildlife of a particular area, and Hawaii doesn't seem to have much to offer outside of birds and fish. I can't see spending that much money or time in a plane for what we would get out of it.

Although not really that exotic or unique, we're likely looking at Costa Rica or Riviera Maya now. Actually probably the latter, as they will have more of the activities available that we're interested in, and we'll spend less time on a plane, so we can stay 7-8 nights while only taking 5 days off of work. Plus, the budget should go further there. If it were just me, I'd choose Costa Rica, but I'm letting the old lady pick. We've been together almost 11 years, and we've spent all of our vacations in the mountains. She's been bugging me about a tropical vacation forever, so I owe it to her. She wants to do all the touristy stuff like parasailing and zip-lining and snorkeling. I want to do an ATV tour through the jungle and swim with whale sharks (or at least some kind of shark), and do some kind of badass fishing excursion.
