Mosques in Turkey calling for jihad in favor of Erdogan.

They better lose or the secularists will all be purged during the retrenchment.

And Obama backs Erdogan. That asshole has a long history of backing the Islamist side in a coup.

Khomenei in Iran & Morsi in Egypt are two I remember off the top of my head.

Fuck. Well guess I have no one to root for now. About time to grab a beer and turn on the news. Take notes, people. We need to have plans for when martial law is established here. No better way to be safely educated than watch someone else do it for real.

                      Istanbul was Constantinople
Instead of Instanbul, now it's SVOple
And that's nobody's business but the Turks

Looks like it fell apart. Now there's going to be a whole fucking mess to deal with. The troops aren't fighting for their country's future, they're fighting for their own lives.

I would bet shit is about to get really, really violent.

Still jets flying around, bombs dropping, and gun fights going on so I bet it isn't over yet. These things don't die off that fast. Even if the first wave was stopped I bet it motivated enough people to stand up, plus you know the regime is going to keep the martial law and all this shit is causing massive instability the next few weeks. CNN just reported it is now unclear who has control. Obama backs the religious regime in charge, and he has a track record of always being wrong on this shit, so I am still rooting for the more secular military. Whoever wins, I bet there are still riots and madness to follow.

I agree with you, there. They're reporting it fell apart, and it seems it may have in parts of Instanbul, but you never know with this shit. I think we all remember Chemical Ali. Right now a lot of this is perception. If one side can convince the other they've lost, they'll likely win. I think the military is widely aware if they lose this coup, they'll probably be killed. That is going to motivate them. Most of the people in the streets (hell, nearly all) are the pro-islam radicals, at the request of their president. I've been really surprised at the (relatively) calm interaction between them and the military, but this will likely change if the military feels like they're on the ropes.
