A few years back I did a cheek swab for DNA and was put in the bone marrow donor program. I didn't think much of it until last week when I was called saying I was a potential match. They told me I matched a 16 year old boy with leukemia. My obvious initial instinct was to be available for whatever they needed if it could potentially save a life.
I just left Cooks hospital in Fort Worth after giving a blood sample to allow them to do more tests to ensure we are in fact a match. I found out to actually give the marrow, it's an actual sedation procedure in hospital. Pretty serious.
I'm curious if anyone else has ever done this type of donation and if anyone is more familiar with with the bone marrow stuff. I guess I wanna make sure that if I do this it's actually going to help save a life like they are telling me. It's all happened pretty quick so I'm trying to process it all and the potential surgery.
